GE Bill passed Add this story to Scoopit!.

In a much more sensible vote the House passed the New Organisms and Other Matters Act by 92 votes to 24.

The only party (Progressives do not count) to vote against along with the Greens was NZ First, which is a useful reminder that pragmatism still wins over principle a lot in that party – having only swapped sides a few weeks ago.

Talking of GE I saw the Wellington march and the rent-a-mob protester Valerie Morse had her clothes on this time. There are some amusing photos from the Auckland march which show three pro-GE protesters who got beaten up a bit (lovely democratic people these hippies) but also another group taking the piss who somehow survived the march with “Paedophiles Against GE” and “Jesus hates Foreigners, Homosexuals and Genetic Engineers” signs.

Good to see a hint of commonsense prevail in the corridors of power. Stranger things I guess. Maybe the millions spent on the Royal Commission had a purpose – although the anti-GE brigade don’t seem to have noticed virtually all of the Green’s hysterical “facts” about the dangers of GE were debunked or discredited as outright lies.

Pity the government doesn’t take the same approach with the Somers report…
