Well done Deborah!
December 12th, 2003 at 12:31 pm by David FarrarMy long standing desire for better media scrutiny is fast becoming a reality. On top of Media Cow, we have had ACT MP Deborah Coddington publish a 10,000 word study of the bias on National Radio.
A comparison was done between National Radio, Newstalk ZB and the NZ Herald with regards to airtime for pro-market and pro-interventionist views. The results had National Radio 49% to 26% interventionists over market, NZ Herald (hardly a right wing publication) 36% to 32% and Newstalk ZB 39% to 35%.
This is one of the reasons I don’t like Governments owning broadcasters.

Uh huh. Politician from far right political party making analysis of broadcasters. Surprise surprise, it reports that the gummint is intervening too much. Yawn. As for the differentials between NZ Herald and Newstalk – bah – margin of error invalidates the result. So basically, Deb aint happy with National Radio. Big deal.
Now, stop for a minute and think. Is what National Radio is reporting not a reflection of the infuence of government, but more a reflection of societies views?
Is this report not actually a report on the influence of government on broadcasting, but a confirmation about how out of touch the far right is with NZ society?
To be fair, I agree – I don’t like Government owning broadcasters either. Media should be free of influence/censorship/orwellian scenarios etc. But frankly, we have a choice – media that may be influenced by the government of the day, or striving for one that is free of this influence but subject to unknown infiltration and control by edjuts of all sorts of political persuasions. The only difference between the two is accountability – and maybe that is an example of what makes us different.
It is accountability that is important. At least we know that the government is fucking with our heads. A political party messing with your perception of news and current events, and you having zero opportunity to recognise it or do anything about it is evil.
At least if we don’t like it we can vote them out – regardless of our income level. The only way you can get rid of political influence under the alternate system is through shareholding rights. Not everyone can afford to do this.
Is news a public service (right or left or whatever) or a profit making operation?
May this question be the decider?
Anyways – good to have you back online you loony right wing edjut. I baptise thee Crazy Spice.
