Was this the same meeting?

On Friday the ACT leadership candidates have a meeting in Wellington. As I was in Queenstown I missed attending, but the news reports are rather contradictory.

    You’re right to say that someone would have to be a sensitive soul to take offence at Ken Shirley’s and Stephen Franks’ thinly veiled digs at Rodney Hide — although I think the worst of them haven’t been reported by the media.

    As far as I know no one has taken offence — Rodney certainly hasn’t because he’s used to such sniping from colleagues! — and the media has simply drawn their own conclusions, which probably explains why only the commentators who notice such subtleties have mentioned it.

    And I think it was worth mentioning considering that all candidates agreed to protocols governing their conduct which banned them from criticising each other.

    So far only Rodney and Muriel have kept to the spirit of the protocols. And I don’t think it has hurt them. Candidates who resort to attacks on others only appear desperate and merely end up returning people’s attention onto their opponents.

    Not that I’m one to be pedantic :) but I think you’ll find that the video is of a different metting to the one the media attended.

    The video on the ACT website is of the evening meeting organised by the party which the media did not attend. The one which they attended and reported was organised by the National Press Club.

    The only published footage of it was TV3 story aired on the night which Rodney has kindly published on his blog at http://rodneyhide.com/Diary/index.php?p=133 You get to see a candidate say “bullshit” — an act that wasn’t repeated in front of the members! :)

    Frank’s campaign manager Simon did video the meeting but I haven’t seen it on Stephen’s website (http://stephenfranks.co.nz/) yet.
