Dick Hubbard

Before he decided to stand for Auckland Mayor, I had a fairly positive opinion of Dick Hubbard. But he seems to be going off the rails big time.
Aaron Bhatnagar has a link to the SST story that Hubbard is refusing to attend the Auckland Mayoral Debate on the Holmes Show on Monday. I can’t ever recall a political candidate turning down a debate before, when they are not the incumbent.
Hubbard won’t appear on Holmes, won’t turn up to public meetings, complains about a blog being mean to him, and sues a newspaper for its unflattering portrayal of him.
I never thought I would say these words, but I think I would now vote for Christine Fletcher ahead of Dick Hubbard, if I was in Auckland.

Good God I hope you wouldn’t vote for either of them.
For the last three years, Auckland has shaken off political stagnation and is actually starting to accomplish things. Banks has been the perfect Mayor in this regard, mostly by getting the hell out of the way of a Council on the move.
Fletcher has a million and one ways of ensuring the Council gets tied up and does nothing. To go back to that would be madness. Banksy all the way!

Which debate is he not attending??
I understand Hubbard is going to appear at the debate the Maori party is hosting tonight.

The Holmes show debate was scheduled for tomorrow night (27 Sept) until Hubbard pulled out. The Maori debate was 2 hours ago.

I said vote ahead of, not vote for. I think it goes without saying whom my first preference would be.

what happened to voting for the Libz candidate Whiggy? or does Banks need your vote too much now? just curious

The Libz candidate is opposed to the beautiful strip of black tarmac I hope to look over my letterbox and see stretching across Hobson Bay in a few years time. ;o) So Banks it must be.

Of course all this only goes to prove that New Zealand (and Auckland) deserves what it gets. Everyone is so busy criticising someone (Hubbard) who does dare to stand up and offer their undoubtedly less than brilliant services to the most important city in NZ, but no one better bothers to put themselves forward.
“Oh, it doesn’t pay well enough…” I suppose.
Which just goes to prove what I already said.
New Zealand really sucks! And the Government is turning the country into a real pansy place.
We should all be very afraid…

Dick is one of the good guys. I have known him for years. He is in no one’s pocket. He is not an orator, but he listens well and leads from the front, while acknowledging others efforts. He will be the next Robbie! John Banks is barely OK. Christine Fletcher dropped the ball last time, so don’t waste your vote. Bugs in Mud for mayor!

I believe the last GREAT mayor Auckland had was not party align and Dick has alot of his atributes too – Sir Dove-Meyer Robinston.
