He has been all up in the media preaching how bad NCEA is and has a great profile. Its a shame the party faithful didnt pick David Kirk back in the day. I mean the guy had won the first world cup, was a hero, had a Rhodes, was in a safe National seat. Had he been picked I think he would still be the Prime Minister. Sue Wood as party president failed to get selected - something unthinkable in Labour. Scott Simpson and Margaret Voyce are in fact by far the longest serving members amongst the candidates. In Hamilton East however the sucessful candidate was David Bennett who is a board member, so being a senior office holder is not always a death knell :-) Being a senior office holder in National more often than not seems to count against you for selection, than help you.
