Reminders of 1989

November 28th, 2004 at 11:18 am by David Farrar

The situation in the Ukraine is reminding me of 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down, and freedom spread to country after country.

Ukraine is certainly far better off than Eastern Europe was under communist rule, but reading how journalists on Ukraine’s state-owned channel have rebelled saying they have had enough of “telling the government’s lies”.

A free media is an essential part of a free country.

The only free media is the web especially the bloggers including you David. This is the exciting new development. The existing print media have their agendas and cannot be free as you put it, but they are certainly more free than state run publicity machines.
