Surviving at sea

It was a bit surreal reading this morning about a tsunami victim who survived at sea for 14 days, before being picked up by a NZ sea captain.

Because last night saw Open Water, a movie about a couple of divers whose boat leaves them behind and they try to survive at sea until they are noticed missing, and rescued.

The movie is based on a true story, that of Tom and Eileen Lonergan who were behind on the Great Barrier Reef in 1998.

The film is low budget, and hence all the scenes we see with sharks are real sharks, not CGI. The actors wore chainmail to protect them, and just hoped a shark wouldn't go for their hands or heads.

The movie was quite gripping as the couple start arguing, the false hope when they see a boat but it doesn;t see them, and the ever present danger of the sharks.

The ending isn't what you would call a happy one, unless you are a shark!!!!
