The new ‘Jobs Jolt’?
February 24th, 2005 at 1:59 pm by David FarrarThe proposed single benefit from the Government is being attacked on all sides. It is not necessairly a bad ideas, but as usual for the Government they are focusing on politics not policy by making an announcement with almost no details.
I wonder if this will be like Jobs Jolt. Lots of pr and spin, but in the end only achieved around 5% of what it claimed it would do. Maharewy is getting good at over-promising and under-delivering.

Um hello.. unemployment lowest in the world…. companies making record profits (AFTER TAX)
why are you complaining?
Lets get real. the reason most of your readers hate the Labour government is because they are doing a good job and that really galls them!

The reason I dislike the labour government is that IMHO we would be doing even better without them sticking there noses where they don’t belong. However if they do one thing well its to steal nationals thunder, lets see Orewa I followed by Foreshore and Seabed, Orewa II followed by changes to the benefit system. Starting to see a trend yet.

Do you actually read what David writes, before launching into the pre-digested talking points? (If anything, Farrar’s remarkably willing to give Labour credit when he thinks it’s due.)
Like him, I don’t actually object to the idea of a single benefit on principle, but this was politics (trying to take the sting out of Orewa II by showing Labour isn’t ‘soft’ on welfare) not a serious policy statement – no detail, no costings, no timetable for introducing solid legislation, in fact sweet fuck all.
If this is the end result of years of work by Cabinet’s resident intellectual, we’re in serious trouble. Surely, if you’re right and everything is so rosy this is the best time for a serious debate about a serious welfare reform package?
