I’m sure he won’t be saying that though.

He just gets worse and worse. At least Peron will be able to sue him soon.

Well, let’s see what he has to say. Two points come to mind, though:

    1) If the allegations are extremely serious (eg child rape etc) then he should not have waited so long, but instead taken his evidence immediately to the police.

    2) If the allegations are about thoughts/deeds 20 years or so ago, or thoughts now, then, while there may be public interest in them being made, more minor matters do not deserve to be raised in an inflammatory way in parliament. By this I mean, by way of analogy, if a big businessperson is being accused of ripping off hundreds of millions of dollars in tax (and there is some evidence for this), then there is some justification for this being raised in parliament. If the local dairy owner has cheated a bit on his taxes, then this should be referred to the IRD but it would not justify the dairy owner being singled out and attacked in parliament.

SO … to my mind, Peters is treading a dangerous line. Too serious an allegation outside parliament and he risks being accused of putting kids at risk for some weeks (and/or sued by peron) … too minor an allegation and he risks looking like a total prick.

    I’m picking the latter.

Where is Mr Peron? He seems to have disappeared. I have no doubt Mr Peters has a political agenda against Rodney Hide. There is more to come on this.

Go to gaynz.com which seems to have quite a bit of material on Mr Peron, including his disappearance. The political agenda is directed at Rodney and anyone else who got involved. Very murky stuff.

Jim is in Europe and has been for the last week or so.He decided he needed a break from all the shit(who could blame him?) and was also going over anyway later to keep working on this years World Freedom Summit in Germany which he was asked to do after the one here last year was such a success. He is in E mail contact on a sporadic basis and has completed a veryyyyy!!!! long interview in which he gos into great detail on pretty much everything and answers the allegations that he was behind the “Unbound” publication(he wasn’t) and who was and the major holes in his attackers claims. This will be forthcoming at the Gaynz website soon.

    Rightkiwi, the analogy should be:
    – businessperson cheats on tax v’s
    – businessperson talked to some people about cheating on tax 20 years ago, and suggested that the rules defining “cheating” were too tight, and wrote a story about how their father cheated on taxes once

Of course, paedophilia is to my mind a much worse crime than cheating on taxes, so multiply the concern on each of those by about ten times.

I still think this was an incorrect use of Parliamentary Privilege. It is resulting in a public trial opened to the media on extremely dubious grounds.

Peters would have been sunk, had a bunch of zealots not continued to research, to finally bring “new” information to light that hardly comes from concrete sources.

I have been reading most of the “proof” and are still not convinced. The statement by the previous owner would get your typical CSI analyst or old fashioned Columbo gum shoe’s spider sense tingling.

The modus operandi of these “do-gooders” leaves me skeptical.

I am disappointed to hear from a few pro-Winston people that confess to knowing nothing about the allegations, having done nothing more than hear the odd news snippet, believed Winston must be right (this is as of a few weeks ago, before even the latest information. This seems typical of the way most people form opinions in preparation for the election. Very sad.

Winston repeated the stuff the Locke website has on it. There is nothing original in what he said. I feel Peron won’t sue him, but I could be wrong.

I have now read some material on Peron sent privately to me by someone on another site. I can honestly say as a father of a 5yr old daughter that I am not at all afraid of Peron. I have never met him, but I can confidently form the view he is not a danger to children. I will send the material to anyone who wishes to email me privately, and can expand on what I have read also. This is not my blog so I won’t disrespect David by doing so here.

OK, I hate to say this but I think it’s time to start reminding Winston Peters that has sat around a caucus table for the last nine years with someone who was CONVICTED (note emphasis) of unlawful sexual connection with a fifteen year old girl when he was nineteen.

Mr Peters should be called upon to explain why he thinks Ron Mark is a fit person to be in Parliament, and whether or not he or the offender concealed this from voters.

Last of all, we should apply Winston’s own logic to his own conduct: Does his relationship with this man mean that he regards sex with under-age girls as no big deal?

Sleaze for the gay goose should be sauce for the gander, after all…

Very good point Craig because that is what Peters is defining as peadophilia. I not Rodney has cut Peron loose and effectively said he must fight his own battles, hopefully this will have Peters chasing some rainbow with little political gain.

Where did you hear that Tim? Can you direct me to the source? As far as I know Rodney has not said anything one way of another yet.I suspect he is gathering info behind the scenes at the moment.

To appease the curious, Arsenal is the best football team that has ever existed. They’re known as the Gunners, with supporters known as Gooners. Hence, as a big fan, I am Gooner. Easy really. Now Antarctic Lemur, that has me going.

Very good point Craig on Ron Mark. You might find that Madeleine & Matt Flannagan (huge accusers of Peron) used Ron Mark to ask a question in Parliament about the use of Police to collect a ‘debt’ off them. Hhhmmm.

Hide Says Peron Must Account For Himself

    NewsRoom.co.nz Agency Story at 7:20 AM, 30 Mar 2005

The ACT leader Rodney Hide is leaving the American businessman Jim Peron
to defend himself over fresh allegations made about him by New Zealand
    First leader Winston Peters.

Mr Peters has claimed in Parliament that Mr Peron – who lives here on a
business visa – has promoted sexual relations between adult men and
    boys.

Mr Peters stepped outside of Parliamentary privilege yesterday saying he
    stands by his claims.

He tabled in Parliament a copy of a magazine he says was produced by Mr
Peron in the 1980s, which contains photos of naked youths and stories of
    sex between adults and boys.

Mr Peron has rejected the allegations to date but could not be reached
for comment on the latest claims.

Rodney Hide defended Mr Peron earlier this month when Mr Peters claimed
he ran a porn store when he didn’t.

But Mr Hide says he knows nothing about the latest claims and Mr Peron
will have to account for himself.

It seems Peters did not make comments outside the House. I just hope Rodney can stay on the sidelines if embarrassing Rodney is the agenda. It would be fun to put the blow touch back on Ron Mark over his little bit of underage sex, but everyone is resisting that so far.

I think that what everyone has missed in what Peters was trying to achieve is that this was never an attack on Rodney Hide or ACT, they were casualties of an attack on Labour’s Immigration Department and their immigration screening/research abilities.

Re-read the transcripts from 9, 10 and 29 March and you will see what I mean.
