Enough IS enough New Zealand, why are people still getting sucked in by these fanatical groups hiding behind the bible. Our counrty is becoming more and more of a cultural melting pot. It is in times like this we, as human beings must learn to accept one another, despite the religious beliefs, sexuality, ethnic group or gender. Our ability to do this separates us from the Nazi regime. Although even Hilter had the guts to say his beliefs were his beliefs and not try to pass them on as Gods will. How will this country survive in the future with these narrow minded fanatic's roaming the streets.

P.S. Hardcore will never die

In fact, I recommend this <a href="http://www.ccel.org/contrib/exec_outlines/2pe/2pe_11.htm" rel="nofollow">exposition of 2 Peter</a>, particularly noting:
"Don't twist the scriptures to your own destruction. The scriptures can be a source of much good, but they can also be abused to much harm."

And this <a href="http://www.watchman.org/profile/abusepro.htm" rel="nofollow">Profile of Spiritual Abuse</a> really hits the nail on the head
Also, God does not want Christians to throw away their critical faculties, why else do we have a brain?
Acts 17:11 "Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."

Finally,
Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall." (Particularly relevant to Graham Capill)

I have belonged to a couple of churches in the fundamentalist mold, not quite as outspoken as Destiny, and it was quite damaging to my relationship to God and fellow humans. I remain a Christian, and intellectually I agree with most of Brian Tamaki's pronouncements.

*However*, I do take issue with his methods. It is not constructive to stand on the sidelines of society and throw rocks. Nor is it helpful to impose pharasaical legalism on the members of the church, for they are like sheep in need of a gentle shepherd.

Tamaki spends a lot of time waving his Bible around saying stuff like "this Word is the absolute standard", "if you disagree with this Word, then you are WRONG"; "if you disobey this word, that is EVIL"

Only problem is, his exposition of the Bible is unbalanced. I believe it would be more accurate for him to say "if you disagree with Brian Tamaki, then you are WRONG".

Some quotes:
Hosea: "What does lord ask of you, O man? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God"
Corinthians (I think): "Build each other up in your most holy faith, encourage each other"
Ephesians: "Be ye kind, one to another, forgiving each other, even as in Christ God has forgiven you"

Matthew 5 contains Jesus' principles of a good life (Sermon on the Mount): "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Yes Jesus was an outspoken prophet of his day.
But that's pretty much where the similarities between Jesus Christ and Pastor Brian end.

Thanks for the link to Destiny Church. Good to see they provide valuable community services such as help finding housing, budgeting services and up-skilling workshops. I thought they were always too extreme but they really do help the community so they must be good people. Next time they have something to say I am going to have an open mind. GB.
