A reader sent me this blog item on how speed cameras in the UK have actually led to worse driving behaviour and higher average speeds.

    Possibly quite a few drivers have taken their eyes off the road looking for the speed cameras.

    I suspect it is more likely the idiots who brake hard when they see something even remotely looking like a speed camera van.

    That is then followed by the idiots that are following too close, and having to swerve or creash into the car in front.

    If you drive on the northern motorway between Tristram Ave and Silverdale, you see an alarming number of knocks on the median barriers and skid marks on the inside lane. They can all be associated with speed camera hunting grounds regularly usedby the Rodney/Northshore police.
