The SuperBlues

June 30th, 2005 at 7:13 am by David Farrar

No they are not an Auckland rugby supporters club, nor are they a group of people who dress up in tights and capes to fight socialism, they are what could be seen as the flipside of the Young Nationals.

To quote their own website, “The SuperBlues are 60+ voters around the country who are working to ensure a National victory in the upcoming election, and to ensure a strong voice in the National Party for those aged 60 plus.”

I get to qualify for membership in 23 years times. Of course I will also still be a Young National then :-)

So it’s safe to say you’re one of those people that’s going to be pushed because you’ll never know when it would be more graceful to jump?

Interesting strategy that a retiring MP for National will be the spokeswoman for the retired.

Belt – no it is indication that the Young Nationals a couple of years ago, very kindly voted me a honorary life member of the Young Nationals for my service to them over many years.

My only involvement with YNs is as a guest speaker occassionally, and unofficial advisor as required. However the life membership allows people to label me NZ’s oldest Young National – humour which seems lost on you.

A very interesting development brought on by MMP and facilitated by cyberland. Maybe this is the way politics is going and we will see the old branch/electorate/regional structure of the National Party change into a series of interest groups.

If only they’d been around in 1998 with their strong voice to stop Shipley cutting Super!

I see the one and only post on “Bernie’s Blog” was in May… I know people can get a bit slow with age but I hope she can post another before the election! :-)

I like the feature on the website whereby you can increase the text on the site by 500%!! I expect a lot of the Blue Rinsers have PCs these days..and now they’ll also be able to read it!
