That’s good.
On reflection it seems to me that National played a high risk strategy that has worked.
First, they could not be seen to get too friendly with ACT in case it frightened the centre.
We have seen how the left and the media has worked itself into a lather over leaked emails.
That is why National could not publicly or overtly stand aside in Epsom.
But by placing Worth so high in the list, they did so in more of a hidden way, something which was picked up by Rodney and other intelligent righties.
It did mean that ACT has had to campaign its arse off, which obviously it has done, to get Rodney back.
Thus National set ACT a challenge, which judging by today’s poll, it has met.
Now the challenge is to keep Rodney in front, in case Labour voters in Epsom decide to keep out ACT (from parliament) by voting for Worth.
Thus, even more National voters will have to vote for Rodney to try and keep out Labour (from government).
National now needs to realise that ACT is a great asset to it, worthy of several palces in government.
And ACT needs to realise why (I think) National behaved how it did (not to frighten the horses).
ACT passed the test.

I agree Craig. I never said it was the Gnats’ responsibliity and don’t want/expect hand-outs from the Gnats. However, we do have MMP which requires (demands?) cooperation and collaberation and hence my, and I sense your, dilemma. The time to talk has long since gone. My belief always has been, and always will be, that campaigns need to be run slightly differently under MMP because of this. As I say, it is too late now. But it wasn’t too late 12 months ago when ACT tried for six months to get the Gnats round a table to figure out a strategy for winning this election. Don’t blame ACT because the Gnats might not be able to form a government on Sep. 18. That conclusion seemed inevitable 12 months ago.

I don’t know how many times I have to repeat the retina-searing, eyeball-popping blindingly obvious, but I’ll do it one more time.

If ACT and NZ First aren’t in the next Parliament, it’s going to be because those tiresome registered electors didn’t give them 5% of their party votes, and/or an electorate seat.

It is not the National Party’s responsibility to campaign for ACT or NZFirst if they can’t get their shit together. Full stop.

I won’t be surprised to see Jim go this election.

We’re in Wigram, and in the past Jim has got my electorate vote. I disagree strongly with his party politics, but I base my electorate decision on personal representation only and in the past Jim has been a good MP when we’ve approached him with issues that needed addressing.

However, this last term he’s done 2/10ths of 1/4 of sod all. I saw him campaigning last election and he was just going through the motions. He’s done his dash and it’s time for him to step down.

Now to organise exactly the same in Wigram to get rid of another piece of useless rubbish. In fact the case is far stronger, Jim Boy represents nothing at a national level at all, he can’t even get past 0.5% at the polls, and is Labour for all intents and purposes.

Scott…Your correct on that one, if Worth dosen’t pull the plug. Labour will do what Rodney Hide is suggesting…I could imagine them saying. If Hide wins you will get 5 or more Rightwing hungry MP’s! Vote Worth & get only one 1 centre right camel jockey , who is totally useless, and no threat to Labour.

The absence of comments on PA does, I think, weaken the left.

This blog has become the meeting place for elements of the centre right and provides a useful sounding board for ideas and arguments. There’s no equivalent on the left – in fact many lefties decide to come here to be heard.
