Do you think it might have been the Maori Party’s campaigning in the prisons that boosted their overall PV? If so, perhaps we should be pleased they did it. Otherwise we would have Nandor back again.

Gary,

I think votes cast in prison are advance votes, not specials – so they would have been in the election night tally. Tho I guess if a prisoner enrolled late, or was in a prison outside their electorate their vote would be counted with the specials.

Argh – I am now confused. Are all advance votes counted on election night, or are some held and counted with the specials if they are cast in advance but out of electorate?

it is not the “Jim Anderton” part of “Jim Anderton’s Progressive Party” that is ridiculous, but the “Progressive Party” bit. There is no party. There is only Anderton. So you should refuse to use “Progressive” and just call it/him “The Anderton Loser”

Yes Anita you are confused, you cant make an advance vote out of your electorate. The only exceptions are hospital ( & presumably prisons) where they go around before and take the votes of everybody that will still be there on election day.

Sore loser rightkiwi, Jim Andertons one man party got 1.16 % , the ACT cast of thousands got 1.52 %. Who’s laughing now !

Skyray,

I think that is exactly my question. When they collect advance votes from places like hospitals, and some people advance vote out of electorate (as the hospital is not in their home electorate) are those poeple’s votes counted on the night (with the rest of the advance votes) or with the specials?

I seem to remember, Anderton (the arrogant tosspot that he is) taunting Rodney Hide about the “fact” that he atleast he will be back in parliament next election

Coalition Jim got 1.7% last time , and maintained a good 1.16% this time, very narrowly missing out on a second MP.
The tax cut monkeys promising eternal bliss saw the vote drop 80% from 7.14% to 1.51% -just above Jim. What did ACT do wrong other than have an ex communist as an MP, another go to jail for stealing books from poor kids and Rodney behind every harem scarum political beat up. All other previous ACT MPs running as electorate candidates will lose their deposits except Rodney

Anita – the advance votes are counted early and released at about 8:30 on election night.

I may be mistaken, but I thought the right to vote was one of the rights you lose while incarcerated?

If so, nobody got any votes from prison, and anybody campaigning there was wasting their time…
