Pania

October 29th, 2005 at 9:21 am by David Farrar

Labour MP Russell Fairbrother is in full retreat from his call to raise a ransom for the return of the Pania statue.

I’d say Chris Tremain’s majority just got bigger.

I tend to agee that theft is probably just a prank gone wrong. I’d be searching any student flats if it had happened in Wellington!

Meanwhile David Slakc has compiled a list of suspects. Despite a rock solid alibi I am on the list!

Well I am sorry to see Pania gone – however if anyone knows who did it could they please tell them about the rocky horror thing here in Hamilton. Apparently its made from very valuable brass…….

I notice the statue is a naked breasted 16 year old girl perhaps the Destiny Church removed it or SHOCK horror Graham Capill. I doubt that Russell Fairbrother will be the Labour candidate next time, I think they will find some nice PC school teacher or a Union Official.

I think she was 13 at the time Tim and she was clothed when she posed for it so the breasts are a work of fiction.

And Dave I think the case against you is looking pretty good.

I suspect she’ll be back soon and the offenders will be found to not have two braincells between them.

Nice comment this morning in the Dom-Post from Tipu Tareha (Napier City Maori advisory committee) who said he did not believe maori radicals were behind the theft. “Maori don’t tend to do that sort of thing…blah, blah blah..”

Poor old Tipu must have been asleep (I’m being charitable here – it can’t be selective memory) when Ballance’s statue was beheaded/replaced with a pumpkin by maori protesters at Motua Gardens, or when One Tree Hill became None Tree Hill thanks to the brave efforts of Mike Smith…etc.

I still think it may yet turn out to be a political statement – either by maori protestors or by some other disgruntled group. It will be interesting!

Oh who gives a rats arse about this stupid statue going missing.

It just goes to show what lengths the media will go to on a slow news day.

I am just waiting for Paul Holmes et.al to fly to Napier and broadcast a live show from the spot where it was.

Its just nonsense, and the obsession the country’s media has had on this non-story shows how bored we all are and how much time we all appear to have on our hands.

Somebody wake me up when something more interesting happens in Napier..

    Scott.

Personally I considered Pania the type of meaningful art I could and did enjoy and find the theft of it distressing. It is also a chilling progression of criminal activity coming on top of the theft of a comparatively worthless icon in KaPITI,and the subsequent obeyance of the owners to the criminals. One wonders if there will be a progression to other Public artefacts, peoples pets, children.

TB says “…some nice PC school teacher or a Union Official.”

A former school teacher like Gerry Brownlee and while National would chase off any Union officials they have real estate salesmen to fill that notch.. opps Chris Tremain is a real estate salesman.
Other than that National has an ex shoe salesman, a couple of career public servants a few years from retirement, a waka jumper from NZ First, a number who have spent a lot of time at the back end of dairy cows,an ex County Clerk, and strangely, 10% of caucus who are ex pupils of St Bedes

“10% of caucus who are ex pupils of St Bedes”

Is that right? The othjer week some spotty little Herbert came knocking at my door soliciting donations for some St Bedes-related activity. No chocolate for sale, just cadging. Gave him a couple of bucks, the little c^nt attempted to sneak off without entering it in his receipt book.

I think I’m beginning to understand.

And who Pamyla is the ex-shoe salesman or hadn’t you caught up with the fact he retired last election (slow) and anyway, what has that do do with the price of fish …. at least he worked for living

Now, if you want to apply that criteria aginst YOUR caucus ????

One can only take leave to wonder whether Fairbrother a former spokesman for some of the Nation’s worst criminals, has not already been approached to act as an intermediary for the return of Pania.
