Common Sense
November 30th, 2005 at 6:06 am by David FarrarIt’s good to see that Jim Sutton has got over his hissy fit over Tim Groser standing for National, and has included Tim in his delegation to world trade talks as an advisor.
Good to see National and Labour working together to advance our trade interests. Now all Labour has to do is to get their Foreign Minister to also support the Government on this issue

I was thinking about this the other day. Yes, Labor and National do work together well.

Seems like good politics to me.
Sutton gets kudos for inviting Grosser. Grosser has to really says yes — to help advance NZ’s interests — and having Grosser inside the tent, and along for the ride, makes it more difficult for him to critise what’s going on, while abroad, or at home. He is compliant.
Labour blunt any Grosser attacks and engage one of NZ’s best diplomats the same time. Win-win for Labour.

Some of us Ryan are more focused on what is good for NZ, not who looks better for it. But hey if that is what you think is important.

The Labour-Nat rapprochement is only one way. Look at the way the Nats are behaving over the Foreshore and Seabed matter. It’s a bit like employment “negotiations”, where the workers are only reasonable if they make concessions to the boss and communist hooligans if they stick to their guns for fair pay and conditions. The reason Labour needs to collaborate with the Nats over trade issues is because the “business community” voted overwhelmingly against it in the last election campaign and Labour believes it needs to burnish its credentials as a “business-friendly” government. Anyway, at least Groser (great name for a right winger, BTW) will know the way to all the fleshpots in Geneva, or wherever the taxpayer funded junket is this time.

Common sense is right. I’m glad that one of National’s few brainiacs is helping out in these negotiations. All good for NZ, and also good for National. Pity about the name, plenty of jokes in there. I’m just hoping he can win us a ‘Grosser Domestic Product’, rather merely representing the grosser aspects of National policy.

Hopefully Groser let’s this all get to his head, and comes back to the rude realisation he’s in the wrong party as a quasi-liberal!
