Peter Zohrab Add this story to Scoopit!.

When I saw the headline that “An outspoken men’s activist and critic of New Zealand’s legal system has been told he is not a fit and proper person to be a lawyer.” I thought I bet you that is Peter Zohrab.

And so it is. Former Usenet readers will remember Mr Zohrab well.

I recall when I worked in the PM’s Office seeing missives from Mr Zohrab that would refer to the dykeocracy which ruled the country etc. Burton Shipley would have found them amusing.

I also recall with amusement when he testified to a select committee that women lost intelligence during pregnancy and so they can’t be relied on or something. I made sure I shared his wisdom with all my female friends but just ended up with a lot of bruises!

There are many stories from his time at the Correspondence School. None of which will be repeated in case he decides to put his legal training to use.

Suffice to say, I share your amusement.

For those who wish to journey into a strange world, visit his website at

And see his submission on the Foreshore and Seabed Bill, http://www.clerk.parliament.govt.nz/content/Select_Committee_Submissions/Fisheries_and_other_Sea_related_Legislation_Committee/Foreshore_and_Seabed_Bill/U_to_Z/Zohrab%20P%201405.pdf

How’s it said? “He has an entire six-pack, but lacks the little plastic thingy that holds it all together” …

At any rate, he does raise one interesting question: why can’t people who want to practice law, practice law? I don’t understand the purpose of the Bar Association rubber-stamping.

  4. gd Says:

Is he a Muslim If not he can convert Lets see the WDLS refuse him then.Another example of how we sort of have freedom of expression and sort of have freedom of speech It all depends on who it is. I dont for a moment agree with this mans position but dont agree with the Thought Police either

    Heh.. Me too :)

    Usenet. Makes me feel old.

    (Don’t say Fidonet!!!)

What was it Jane (whoever) use to call him? “The Zhobot”?

  7. Belt Says:

Of course, this is the fun search:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&q=%22Peter+Zohrab%22+%22farrar%22

    The choice result was:

“David Farrar is a parliamentary flunkey, who is not only a liar but a fool (Was:What is fascism?)” — dated in 1998.

    hehehe

But I guess I better not encourage others to dig into my juvernile utterings of the period either.

Still, remember a.v.a.t.a.r, Janice, BABYMASH and someone called “Saint Squirrel”… that’s not our Squirrel, is it?

I guess some of us are just too dumb to move on.

  8. Peter Metcalfe Says:

Jane Gregg’s name for Peter Z. was the Zob-bot.

As for the others, Avatar hangs around on nz.comp these days, Janice was last seen alleging a conspiracy in Rod Donald’s Death, I haven’t seen BABYMASH for some time and Saint Squirrel is Squirrel AFAIK.

As for being ashamed of juvenile postings, it’s nice to see that I was in favour of GCSB co-operation with the Anglo-Americans and also the overthrow of Saddam in the 90s.

Indeed Farrar – so did I. Good riddance to the knuckle dragging Neanderthal – and good on you for keeping it at the top of your blog for the day.

Note only the misogynistic dingbat Lindsay Mitchell, and Sir Humphrey’s had anything positive to say about him.

I can’t stand the signal to noise ration in nz.*

Unless it has improved in the last 5 years?

    Hmmm, Google Groups search…

    Peter Metcalfe
posted in 44 groups, 3600+ messages from Oct 2003 until, and I quote, “moments ago”.

    Compare that to
    David Farrar
posted in 66 groups, 1200+ messages from Apr 1997 until, and I quote, “34 hours ago”.

He’s still autoposting the nz.regional faq but seems to have stopped active participation in March 1998.

Peter, maybe it’s you that’s affecting the S/R ratio?
    ;-)

At least it improved momentarily when I stopped posting in Apr 1999 it seems.

Hey, just noticed a news group: alt.idiot.david-farrar

Anywho. Enough nostalgia. Back to work.

Oh no… hang on. Quoting myself:

“I have a mate who’s 28, owns his own home and business, healthy, friendly, outdoorsy as well as movies/dining type of guy – in other words: the perfect catch… And HE’s got trouble finding anyone worthwhile”

Guess what? He took off with my (now ex) wife!

    HA! :)

  12. Belt Says:

… maybe I should have listened to Peter Zohrab after all?

  13. David Farrar Says:

Belt – very funny re ex wife.

I probably posted over 5,000 times to Usenet but had x-no-archive on for 90% of them as I was worried about quotes coming back to haunt me. Ironic considering how much I blog now :-)

I don’t post the FAQs – Simon Lyall has a bot does it, but they are done in my name as I wrote them. I now check Usenet out once every two months or so and stopped being a regular a few months after I started blogging.

I have two newsgroups named after me and abusing me. That is because I used to be listed as a trusted rmgrouper for alt.config and would delete some of the newly created ones which would upset a few people.

  14. LMC Says:

Zohrab was my Correspondence School teacher. I knew he had very ‘male-centric’ views, but I always found him to be very pleasant and professional.

Perhaps you should all grow-up and stop calling the guy names because he says what he believes in. So what if you think he’s wrong. He’s harmless and entitled to his own opinion. You don’t have to like it.

So, get over yourselves and leave the guy alone.

  15. insider Says:

I know people who worked directly with him who were of the view that he was not harmless, so perhaps you should grow up and allow others to express equally well informed views without abuse. As the news story in the DOm indicated, he is quite good at name calling.

  17. Peter Zohrab Says:

Fascinating the kinds of morons who are hired to work in minister’s offices ! This guy Farrar writes (top of the page):

“I also recall with amusement when he testified to a select committee that women lost intelligence during pregnancy and so they can’t be relied on or something. I made sure I shared his wisdom with all my female friends but just ended up with a lot of bruises!”

Hello ? First of all, he doesn’t seem interested in whether what I said was true or not. Secondly, he doesn’t like what I say, but he’s obviously a wimpish victim of the Dykeocracy, because he finds it funny that he was assaulted by women — resulting in a lot of bruises.

It is because we have these morons in high places that the Dykeocracy is able to keep blaming men for Domestic Violence. When the male twerps who work in ministers’ offices get hit by women, they find it funny, but if he had hit them back, he would have been before a court in two minutes flat.

  18. err.. Says:

Peter, I’d love to join you in quaking in deep-seated terror of being beaten up by my girlfriend but I’m too busy laughing.

Butch up, man! What are you, some kind of noodle-armed pansy-boy?

  19. Psycho Milt Says:

Mr Bayne’s comment about the missing little plastic thingy is suddenly made crystal clear…

  20. David Farrar Says:

Actually I quite like it when my female friends give me bruises – depending on the method :-)

  21. Peter Zohrab Says:

I don’t want to raise the tone of this blog by posting here too often, but some people reading this might have the IQ to consider the issue of domestic violence in a serious and intelligent manner, so I would like to explain something here:

Of course, Feminist lickspittles like Farrar will gain brownie-points from their dominatrix girlfriends by saying how much they like being hit by them, but you cannot just put up endlessly with violence from someone you are in a relationship with without eventually hitting back. She might use a weapon, she might keep doing it again and again, or she might have a black belt in karate.

And at the point when the man hits back, the woman can call the cops, take the kids to a Woman’s Refuge, and get a divorce settlement whereby she gets the house and the kids, and the man just gets supervised access to his kids every second weekend.

Dyke Central Radio (National Radio) featured a family lawyer on Nine-Till-Noon saying that only a small percentage of cases get to a contested hearing (i.e. so what were all these fathers’ groups protesting about ?).

Well, the answer to that is that any lawyer in mediation etc. will tell the client that they had better bear in mind their BATMA (Best Alternative to a Mediated Agreement) — i.e. if the lawyer tells the man that there’s no point going to a defended hearing because precedents show that he won’t get anything better than (say) access every second weekend, then the man will obviously settle for that and not pay lawyers’ fees and court fees to go through the process of getting a defended hearing to grant him what he would have got more cheaply and earlier in mediation !

That is why so few cases go to a defended hearing.

  22. weizguy Says:

“I don’t want to raise the tone of this blog”

You’re not in much danger of doing that Pete.

(Come on, you all wanted to say it.)

  23. Danyl Mclauchlan Says:

lickspittles like Farrar will gain brownie-points from their dominatrix girlfriends . . .

    He wishes.

  24. Psycho Milt Says:

Perhaps DPF could advise us all where we can get one of these dominatrix girlfriends? Just out of curiosity, like…

  25. David Farrar Says:

    Yellow Pages or Google :-)
