Control of Benefits

The National Maori Urban Authority. has called for welfare benefits to be paid to Maori social service agencies which would control how beneficiaries spend the money.

It is impractical to do compulsorily (and would be wrong to apply just to Maori), but that shouldn’t change the fact there are a number of welfare dependent families who can not cope (as we have tragically seen) and make very very poor decisions on expenditure with taxpayer money not going towards food, health and education for the kids, but alcohol etc for adults.

No easy answers for how you overcome the problems in those families except try and identity assistance as soon as possible. Even schemes such as food and clothing vouchers do not work well (from what I have seen) as a black market gets set up trading in them for cash.
