MP reduction bill not to proceed

The Justice & Electoral Select committee have recommended unanimously that the Electoral (Reduction in Number of Members of Parliament) Amendment Bill by NZ First MP Barbara Stewart not proceed.

I put in a submission (word doc) opposing the bill on various grounds – the main two being it would break the electoral system, and that we already had one of the smallest Parliaments in the world.

Many of the points in my submission seem to have made it into the report, as well as the table of country populations and sizes of parliaments I compiled which is their Appendix B.

So nice to see one’s submission has been of value.
