Southpark Offends Again!
October 28th, 2006 at 10:51 am by David FarrarIf I’m going to defend Southpark against offending Islam, I’m certainly going to defend them against offending fans of the Crocodile Hunter!
What the media reports haven’t covered is that it shows one of the guests at the Hell Halloween Party running away crying saying something along the lines of it is to soon to be funny. And as all Southpark fans know it takes 17.1 years for something to become funny. The episode is on You Tube.
I foudn it mroe amusing that Princess Diana was at the Hell party

“To lampoon somebody’s death like that is unacceptable and so soon after the event is grossly insensitive.”
This statement is 50% correct.
It is grossly insensitive. It is however not only acceptable but it legally protected that two idiots can make bucket loads of money from being grossly insensitive.
Has anyone actually asked Teri what she thinks or is speaking for her without her input not considered – if not offensive then at least just a bit rude?
This is what Matt & Trey do. They’re the pythons of the 21st Century. Give it ten years they’ll be getting awards for it and everyone who turned their backs on them parties this week will be struggling to get their attention.
Southpark has never offended me since I stopped watching it.
If I really want to be offended there’s always the 6 o’clock news.

So South Park has pretty much insulted everyone by now, hasn’t it? The only people who haven’t been offended (and presumably are the ‘regular’s still watching it) are those without any sense of identity or connection to any standards or beliefs.
Perhaps most of all though, South Park is offensive to people’s intelligence.

Hardly…its very thought provoking and cutting satire most of the time. You have to be pretty on to it to get the pop culture references and political digs it puts out…sure its over the top sometimes but thats the hook to get you in…

Hell James if find your thoughts being provoked by Southpark I have some old Janet & Johns here that will send you into mental overdrive.

Anything that ridicules a standard or belief brings an opportunity to self-question or re-evaluate. In that sense, it can be thought provoking if you choose it to be.
For example, if I was a Mormon then I’d certainly have been challenged by the episode that made fun of John Smith.
The “shock” is designed to make the satire more blatant. Certainly I can understand those who prefer their satire less puerile.

Having just watched the episode Im wondering how the fact that it featured naked little boys being led around by Catholic priets on leashes has provoked no comment…’;-)
Bloody Mary…part 2?

Have they ever lampooned themselves?
I think they’ve got a bit tired and repetitive, but even so, I place their right to free speech first.
Freedom to be offended and raise the point that you are offended necessarily involves others’ freedom to offend.

I don’t watch this, but get the sense that these guys go out of their way to offend anything that groups of people hold dear.
I’m genuinely interested to hear from anyone if they’ve insulted Islam. If they have (or do) it lends weigth to the idea that they’re keen to challenge and provoke thought on anything. If they haven’t (or don’t) I’d suggest that they are simply interested in making money and staying alive.

The producers of South Park have been offensive to many but as the old saying goes, “what goes around comes around” just ask Dear Leader.

Not an avid watcher of the show but gather that when South Park has been labelled insensitive in the past, it has been after a group of some kind that has been targeted.
Here of course a late individual and his family are involved and, as I suspect is in line with the writers’ intention, is simply a new low. This carry-on is disgusting and abstaining from watching it leaves the fact unchanged.

They devoted two episodes to exposing the hypocrisy shown by the studios about how every religion except Islam can be mocked.

Well, if there really is a difference between mocking people and just being horribly racist towards them. “The networks” aren’t any easier on Muslims or Islam than other people or religions. They just use a different way of offending them.

Yawn, anyone for a debate on suicide bombers, catholic priests, alter boys, special choir practice or secret hand shakes and goat shagging?

A really intersting discussion that I have taken to my blog also.
I just wonder as South Park gets more and more edgy and shocking whether they have to keep outdoing themselves in order not to be seen as past it ?

They only show him for about 10 seconds, and then they say it’s too soon. They don’t make fun of him or mock him. His family will be uncomfortable about it, but that’s what happens when you become a celebrity.
Yet another storm in a teacup.

Funny how the people most offended don’t watch the show.
It’s easy to avoid, change the channel.

every1 shouldn make such a big deal about the crocidile hunter joke. first of all they say too steve that he had JUST DIED and that people were getting MAD ABOUT THE COSTUME. then they kick him out for having no costume when they find out its really him. the episode also shows priest with naked boys tied too leashes and biggie smalls, this says that they all also went too hell in the southpark creators opinion. why isnt NE1 mad about that, that could be offensive too biggies family and some priest. every1 must know that ITS A JOKE and THEY GET PAYED FOR IT….BY THE WAY FUCK KRAMER FROM SEINFELD.
