Greens want poor people to be stuck at home

The SST reports on air travel, and how the Greens want to cap carbon emmission from air travel with taxes on airline seats or fuel. The aim is to “to reduce flying by putting up the price”.

Now think about who will be the ones who reduce their flying? It won’t be businesses and it won’t be relatively well off families. Yep the Greens masterplan is to make air travel too expensive for poor families so they can never holiday outside of NZ.

Now from a purely selfish point of view, I should be in favour of this. If one gets rid of the poor people from the planes, then there will be a lot more space for those of us still flying. The chance of having no-one sitting next to you will be so much higher.

Jeanette Fitzsimons though, an expert on international travel, claims poor people don’t get any benefit from lower airfares, and those nasty middle class people just use cheaper airfares to stay in more expensive hotels!!!

An Oxford study claims three quarters opf those using discount fares are well off. Sure that might be the case, but that other quarter are the ones who will be most affected.
