You pathetic, deluded fool. You have no sense of social responsibility or vision of a better future.

I recommend a career in the alcohol pushing industry, where you will no doubt do well.

Alcohol Action NZ points out that more than a thousand NZers die a year from alcohol-related causes -- 49% through chronic disease and 51% through alcohol-related accidents. I suppose you don't think these statistics count for anything. That alcohol doesn't kill people, a lack of personal responsibility does? Yeah right ...

And by the way, another brickbat for the cowardly people who don't have the guts to use their real name when posting comments. An opinion expressed anonymously tells us more about the cowardice of the speaker than their capacity for intelligent thought.

As someone who lobbied MP's on this on the Bill of Rights/Human Rights Act grounds - equality before the law of all age of political citizenship (as in 1999 and before on two conscience votes since then - PR and CU, I did not lobby WL and Ch this time given the hard time they had on those votes) ... my take is that MP's may have been arriving at the 18/20 age split.

Thus your campaign advocacy against this and for measures targeting access/possession by those under 18 may have excited the late government statement.

I was also applying this logic with my own lobbying.

I think in the end the strength of the keep it at 18 team was the cross-party support. Though a lot of the names in that story sound very familar!

This post is encouraging and a good read, as there is no substitute to the magic of youthful enthusiasm and confidence shown by these budding politicans.Good effort all round.

To Fatheragainstdad4justice - Why should I growl at you, as the mirror will reflect who is the fool .Have confidence my friend, one day you will over come your sense of inferiority and frustration.

John's position was to support a second reading to allow the split age amendment to be considered.

Hi DPF - nice post - there was more to it than that though.

Anyway, I think Metiria Turei's speech (against raising the age) was the best.

Which bit of the picture doesn't the booze companies get! They are facing ever increasing amounts of regulation and legislation and what do they do... disband their Wellington based lobbyists! yeah right

Then the PR woman from Lion Nathan is on TV trying to defend their website piss drinking competitions where you get a chance to win a $20 Tui T-shirt. Great bit of corporate responsibility.

I bet the tobacco industry is laughing at the booze boys and girls trying to blow smoke rings around the prospect of stopping more regulations and restrictions.

The booze industry has a lot to answer for. Watching that PR woman from Lion Nathan try to defend web based piss drinking campaigns to win Tui and other branded items was just a laugh. It's no wonder they are in the position they are in with threats of regulation.

They just don't seem to get it! One would have thought they need as many lobbyists as possible not fewer!
