Trans-Tasman MP Ratings

Trans-Tasman (a truly excellent publication) has done it annual ratings fo MPs. NZPA has a story on them.

I always like to analyse data so have put all the ratings into a spreadsheet and here are the average ratings for each party (2+ MPs), with the change from last year:

Maori 5.1 (+0.8)
National 4.7 (+0.2)
United Future 4.5 (+0.5)
NZ First 4.5 (+0.5)
ACT 4.3 (-0.7)
Labour 4.2 (-0.2)
Green 3.9 (nc)

That’s a pretty fai reflection in my book in that Maori Party is well regarded, National has had improvements in its performance, and Labour’s average is lowered by the large number of non-performers.

The Green rating overall seems harsh when you consider their poll ratings, but this is probably more driven by leftwing voters digusted with Labour, than any particular parliamentary performance. Also Russel Norman has not been ranked, and he has done pretty well and would lift their average up if he was an MP.

In terms of individual MP, some extremes are:

Top – Helen Clark, John Key and Bill English on 8.0
Second – Tony Ryall, Winston Peters and Phill Goff on 7.5
Bottom – Taito Phillip Field on 0.0
Second Bottom – Brian Connell on 0.5
Third Bottom – George Hawkins, Ashraf Choudary and Charles Chauvel on 1.0 each
Biggest Drop – Rodney Hide from 6.0 to 4.0
Biggest Increases – Lockwood Smith and Pita Paraone up 2.5 each
Second Biggest Increases – Simon Power and Jackie Blue up 2.0 each

For each party top performers are:

Act – Heather Roy 4.5
Green – Jeanette Fitzsimons 6.0, Metiria Turei 4.5
Labour – Clark 8.0, Goff 7.5, Cullen and King 7.0
Maori – Pita Sharples 6.0, Tariana Turia 5.5
National – Key and English 8.0, Ryall 7.5, Rich, Collins and Brash 7.0
NZ First – Peters 7.5, Woolerton, Paraone and Donnelly 4.5
Progressive – Anderton 5.5
United Future – Dunne 5, Copeland 4.5
