Trans-Tasman MP Ratings Add this story to Scoopit!.

Trans-Tasman (a truly excellent publication) has done it annual ratings fo MPs. NZPA has a story on them.

I always like to analyse data so have put all the ratings into a spreadsheet and here are the average ratings for each party (2+ MPs), with the change from last year:

Maori 5.1 (+0.8)
National 4.7 (+0.2)
United Future 4.5 (+0.5)
NZ First 4.5 (+0.5)
ACT 4.3 (-0.7)
Labour 4.2 (-0.2)
Green 3.9 (nc)

That’s a pretty fai reflection in my book in that Maori Party is well regarded, National has had improvements in its performance, and Labour’s average is lowered by the large number of non-performers.

The Green rating overall seems harsh when you consider their poll ratings, but this is probably more driven by leftwing voters digusted with Labour, than any particular parliamentary performance. Also Russel Norman has not been ranked, and he has done pretty well and would lift their average up if he was an MP.

In terms of individual MP, some extremes are:

Top – Helen Clark, John Key and Bill English on 8.0
Second – Tony Ryall, Winston Peters and Phill Goff on 7.5
Bottom – Taito Phillip Field on 0.0
Second Bottom – Brian Connell on 0.5
Third Bottom – George Hawkins, Ashraf Choudary and Charles Chauvel on 1.0 each
Biggest Drop – Rodney Hide from 6.0 to 4.0
Biggest Increases – Lockwood Smith and Pita Paraone up 2.5 each
Second Biggest Increases – Simon Power and Jackie Blue up 2.0 each

For each party top performers are:

Act – Heather Roy 4.5
Green – Jeanette Fitzsimons 6.0, Metiria Turei 4.5
Labour – Clark 8.0, Goff 7.5, Cullen and King 7.0
Maori – Pita Sharples 6.0, Tariana Turia 5.5
National – Key and English 8.0, Ryall 7.5, Rich, Collins and Brash 7.0
NZ First – Peters 7.5, Woolerton, Paraone and Donnelly 4.5
Progressive – Anderton 5.5
United Future – Dunne 5, Copeland 4.5

    “Taito Phillip Field on 0.0″

Isn’t that a bit high! (don’t they do negatives?)

I’m surprised that Tizard got more than a 1.0?

By the way how did panty-slut-boy Benson-Pope do?

  5. Mainstream Says:

King up there with Clark, Cullen and Goff?

    Gimme a break!

She stuffed up the health system big-time and now she’s frightened her police bureaucrat syncophants into being a bunch of yes-men who help spray the spirits off highways and do her bidding through the Crown law office and arrest a man for defending himself on his own property….

Thank God she’s retiring as MP for Rongotai!

I knew righties were ignorant of constitutional process, mainstream, but thanks for reminding me again.

John Key is moving the top performers into the front line which is where they should be. If you have a strong, balanced group of people who can perform and work together then that will be hard to beat. I notice that when she is beaten on an issue, she promptly offers all party talks – like she just did on climate change. John Key needs to turn that against her and he is skillful enough to do it.

  8. Pascal's Bookie Says:

Come on Tim mate, do us a favour and not supprt Key. You’ve got more ducks than Danny Morrison.

  9. tim barclay Says:

Climate change for the Labour Party is about making people all scared the world is going to end then then promptly offering a swingeing range of socialist controls to solve the problem. The Labour Party does it with health, housing, job security, and income especially welfare. As for her silly promise about making NZ carbon neutral at a Labour Party conferance she can be caught out there but if things get too hot she runs up the white flag of “all party talks”.

  10. Pascal's Bookie Says:

Climate change for the Nats is about trying to get in the sack with Jeanette Fitzsimons.

Are you are suggesting that the Labour party of NZ has done nothing to improve health, housing, job security, or income? Are you suggesting that Labours record is worse than the Nats on these matters?

If so, that doesn’t even count as wrong, it is not even a duck and it makes Danny Morrisons worst day at the crease look like a triple century in comparison.

For god’s sake man open a book. Plagiarise if you have to, but just stop being so bloody wrong all the time.

Let’s see. Rodney Hide was previously attacked for his style and the content of his questions and what he did in parliament. But he was given a rating by this publication of a 6.0 at that time. Then he changes the very things for which he was condemned and his rating drops to 4.0. So his high rating came with the “wrong” style and his lower rating came with the “right” style. Seems he will lose out no matter what he does.

  12. tim barclay Says:

The Labvour Party thinks the power of the state can solve everything. They cynically make everyone scared including handing out mock eviction notices to state house tenants saying the National Party will take your house away. One thing is sure the Labour Party confiscates people’s incomes, they trap people in low incomes with high tax threasholds and then say the National Party will take your income away. They make people frightened because of some essential service then threaten them that the service will be taken from you.

I note that Liabour’s token Mozzie Ashraf Choudary got one point though no-one is sure why, could be for having the cross removed from the Palmerston Clock Tower.
