i vsited a good buddy of mine in jail yesterday. hes finishing a life sentence… he has spent time with Burton. he told me a the guy is nuts and everyone knew it,,, no shit.

apparently burton was sent to wellington to do an intensive rehabilitation course for 6 months. its a thing for violent offenders – the real bad ones. anyway, he was kicked off for beating up guys in the unit. he told my buddy that he knocked one guy out with one punch. he walked out of the guys cell, but was still angry that he didnt inflict enough pain on him. sohe went back and while the guy was still out, he snapped one of his legs.

hes also angry with one of the escapees from last time for giving them up. apparently the house was full of weapons and he wanted to shoot it out with the cops..

Now this is second and third hand, so I am not suggesting is necessairly the gospel truth. But maye any journalists looking into why Burton was released by the Parole Board, could try and ascertain if the account above is correct.

You can be sure the Parole Board had quite a lot of material before making their decision to release Burton. If you think this sort of remark represents material a Parole Board should rely on then you should go and work for the Taliban. The fact is no system is perfect and mistakes are made because you are taking a punt on the future. If you really want to take things cautiously then we would all be locked up for good based on chance remarks, heresay, rumour and plain old fashioned prejudice. That seems to be the system you want.

Have you ever noticed that on the few occasions where liberals get to fret about the cost of something, it is more often than not related to how much it costs to incarcerate someone?

Well we could cut costs in prisons pretty damned quick. The trouble is that social-liberals believe that crime is caused by social and economic inequalities in which capatalism is to blame, and in that sense, the crims are victims too. Henceforth they believe that if the crims are treated in an appeasing and ingratiating manner during their sentences, and upon their release, that they will be nice to us back.

    Well, DUH.

Gut wrenchingly tragic encounter with cyclist by this cowardly psycho….

Extreme bad luck he wasn’t just a few miles removed where he would have likely instead encountered a couple of good keen pig hunters who would have demonstrated the folly of Glock pistols vs centerfire hunting rifles.

there are always pussy words from dogooders. This guy wasnt santa, ,hes something in the bottom of a toilet bowl,The university types who work???for parole should listern to the fears of the people(not likely)and put them selfs in the position of the victim(not likely)instead of try to save money for the justice dept, if their ,partner, was raped would they think i was following procedure

  5. Put it away Says:

Tim, will you please attempt to grow a brain.

  6. Murray Says:

This guy is clearly a mass murderer wanting to go off.

Why don’t you go cuddle him Tim, I’m sure that will help.

I’d rather he took the Saddam two step myself. Ask the family of the guy he killed what they think.

my buddy is gonna give me a call later in the week, so ill get some more burton stories.. we ran out of time on saturday.

i should stress that the guy i know in jail has been a friend since i was 5 and is the only criminal i know!

I’ve long thought the best way to focus parole board members is to require their highest risk parolees to live next door to themselves. Once they’ve run out of those, the next highest risk parolees can live next door to their grandchildren.

And isn’t that the standard of care they should be required to excercise anyway?

  9. burt Says:

So what went wrong with the AOS training?

A shot in the leg… I would have thought a double tap between the eyes would have been a better option.

  10. Oswald Bastable Says:

If this was an isolated incident involving the parole board, on might sympathise with them.

    It isn’t.

They have a history of paroling shit-heads who go on to perform this sort of atrocity.

BTW, I have actually sat in a few parole hearings…

    Your own?

  12. johnmacc Says:

Burt – the AOS were nowhere near when this happened – they were kicking down doors somewhere else in Wgtn looking for him. This was two ordinary uniformed general duties cops with 9mm glocks at over 25 metres (seems they didn’t have time to get their M4s out of the lockbox in the boot of the car). You don’t train on the firing range at that distance with handguns. Getting a hit in the groin within three shots was a bloody good effort – we can all just hope he loses at least his leg on the operating table!

  13. chris Says:

This guy is a good reason why we should reinstate capital punishment in New Zealand. He will no doubt get out of prison at some stage in the future, so instead of running that risk we should move to protect all New Zealanders from him forever by removing him from the planet.

  14. Murray Says:

Excellent demonstration of pig ignorance driving the mouth mawm.

Oz was a CO and has somewhat more subject knowledge than most others, evidently you for example.

  15. Danyl Mclauchlan Says:

Stuff are reporting that Burton has lost his leg.

  16. Murray Says:

A family as lost a member.

  18. Susie Says:

I can’t belive how naive I am, but I was told “on very good authority” that Burton was introduced to P in prison – apparently visitors are not allowed to be searched and you can get anything in there. And prisoners are entitled to conjugal rights. I mean, where have I been, this is OUTRAGEOUS. This is easy to stop, why are we allowing it to continue? Burton’s behaviour was not “exceptional” and he had tried to escape once before.
That parole guy Tim should serve the same sentence Burton gets when he hops out of hospital – raving idiot is just as dangerous.

  19. Graeme Edgeler Says:

Susie – visitors to prison can be searched. Prisoners are not entitled to conjugal visits.

  20. ross Says:

    > Prisoners are not entitled to conjugal visits.

They’re not entitled to cell phones or drugs either. But they gain access to them.

  21. dad4justice Says:

It is extremely disappointing that prisoners have access to cellphones because they often use them to intimidate and coerce vulnerable young ladies on the outside to act as drug mules.
    I know of a young lady who was such a victim , so I challenged the prison authorities who told me that cellphones were a huge problem and he sited three reasons that they remain a problem and why they cannot put a cellphone block around the prisons;
    1. They disrupt flight path navigation systems on board aircraft.
    2. Senior staff members need them.
    3. Telecom put a huge argument against the restrictions.

To Telecom and senior prison officials I say well done for making New Zealand even more dangerous. Maybe in the future they could build prisons outside flight paths but you need a government with a brain to think of that!

I met a girl last week whose boyfriend was in prison the same time Burton was during his two years of “good behaviour”. While inside Burton stabbed her boyfriend mulitple times, smashed all of his front teeth out and left him in intensive care. This was because the boyfriend refused to share his drugs with Burton. No undue risk to the community?! He was a violent drug addict months befor his release! Not what I’d call good behaviour…
