NTV is here!

January 30th, 2007 at 4:39 pm by David Farrar

Okay it’s not quite MTV, but only one letter different – its NTV.

There’s a mixture of video and audio from various MPs, and also photos stored on Flickr. Good to see the Nats using the Internet more.

They’ve even set up their own You Tube account for people who want to see it there.

    Wow.

I would genuinely be interested to see how many people (other than party hacks – from both sides) visit this website.

Other than that, it’s an impressive little set up, and will motivate party activists if nothing else.

I am a party hack but I was most impressed. It is up there with some of the best other efforts I have seen.

It would seem to be so simple once you have the content,

I had John Key’s speech off to my good poeple by
1.18pm this afternoon and had copies delivered to a number of poeple who do not have an internet connection by 2pm it didn’t take much. Just knowledge of the information available and an understanding of how to process it.

We need more of this, the Tax Calculator was a good example you could put something at the finger tips of the voters and they could see the effects for themselves.

Impressive in execution. Not sure if isolating multimedia from the rest of a party’s “stuff” is a good idea or a bad one.

If I’m inspired by a spokesperson’s piece to camera on a policy, and I want more information, and that information is a pdf file on party HQ’s site, then I guess if the link is right there on the same page I’ll click it. If not I won’t go looking for it. Then once I’m on the party HQ’s site, will I go back to the multimedia site? Maybe…

I hope the Nats are upfront with stats on visitors etc. I’ll be fascinated to see if this works, but “big props” (is that the correct whimsical approbation nowadays?) to them for innovation.

In fact it’s given me an idea, which I might run by you, DPF, if and when you make good on your promise to drop in for a beer.

Impressive set-up, but hardly inspiring content.

    Dull dull dull.

On the About Page, it says “For videos, try NTV National’s YouTube channel – where you can subscribe using your RSS reader and leave comments.” – yet the YouTube link doesn’t provide an RSS feed.

Other than that it is very positive to see another party (the first being the Greens) willing to put significant effort into online work. Hopefully the 2008 election will make substantial use of the internet’s potential.

great idea but would be much more useful if they also provided an RSS feed for the video … I found the Odeo RSS feed for the audio
