Palmie vs New Plymouth

The Herald reports:
A turf war has erupted between Palmerston North and New Plymouth over which of the central North Island towns deserves a spot on an iconic board game.
The board being Monopoly of course. And the simple answer is neither of course. Mt Ruapehu is a far far superior choice to represent the Central North Island. Hell a gravel road near Taihape would be a better choice.

Come now – who in NZ hasn’t been subjected to vicarious embarrassment at the antics of their town’s mayor?

I see Taupo is under ‘Iconic New Zealand Features” and not the Central North Island, but where’s Rotorua? And shouldn’t Mt Ruapehu be an ‘iconic feature’ as well? Weird.

Hmmm, I know which of the two towns I’d rather spend a week in. And it’s not Palmy!
But what’s wrong with having a seprate Taranaki category – New Plymouth is hardly Central North Island.

Palmy only has two things going for it, stuff all and fuck all. New Plymouth has to be one of the better smaller towns in New Zealand and no I don’t live there.
