Lots of links

February 27th, 2007 at 4:01 pm by David Farrar

A round-up of some good articles to check out.

Salient has the ratio of overspent public money in 2005’s election by The National Party, Act, United Future, Greens, NZ First and Labour respectively : 1:2:6:7:13:68

Liberals blogs No Right Turn and Contradiction disagree on banning gang patches. I have some problems myself with banning identification symbols instead of actions.

Whale Oil points out the non independence of the independent inquiry into rates. He later discovers that one of them also used to work in Helen Clark’s office.

Craig Foss and fellow Hawke’s Bay MP Chris Tremain dress up as the Blues Brothers.

Liberty Scott blogs about the attempt by Rebecca Loos and Matthew Ridge to join the mile high club. He has some useful practical advice for those who wish to try. Also Stuff reports that Ridge on TV last night denied anything happened. Yeah Right!

David Haywood blogs that the differences between Sue Bradford and Chester Borrows versions of Section 59 are not as great as they think. There has been a lot of debate on their discussion board on the issue.

Spare Room has Drew Barrymore (sigh) in a Saturday Night Live skit as a 80s workout instructor.

Banning gang patches is ridiculous and unworkable and Laws has already received advice to that effect yet the chase for a headline and another spot on TV means he’s found a patsy to put up a private member’s bill.

If anyone from the scouts to “dykes on bikes” aren’t going to be potentially captured in the definition it has to be done by way of naming the particular gang. That then means any newly emerging gang (and I’m thinking particularly of teenagers, who band together under all sorts of monikers and cause a lot of the trouble) has to be added, and so on.

A crack down on behaviour would make sense, but that’s warrant only a sycophantic and unquestioning write-up in the local rag. A law change gets publicity.

Since the cops are too busy issuing tickets, I guess it will fall to the local “citizens patrols” to ask some ratbag to kindly remove his leather jacket though. Presumably Laws will volunteer to join them if the law passes. Or will he be too busy learning the sidestep for Dancing with the People Whose Careers are Nosediving?

goodness DPF, did you get the idea for this links list from Span’s Linky Love? Not like you to not give a Hat Tip! Hope your lists prove to be as interesting as hers.

I’ve actually done omnibus posts like this for a couple of years, albeit not frequently. Normally I call it Around the Blogs or something.

I usually do them when I am too busy to give each their own post.

OK, the “not frequently” may give me an out and your explanation is accepted. But the Linky Love label used by Span is funky, you have to admit.

This shouldn’t be surprising. Chester is trying to legislate for exactly what Sue Bradford asserts is the intention of her bill.

I see one of your posts’ also turned up in this weeks salient.

Had a good giggle at the blues brothers poster of Tremain and Foss. As much as I hate them, they are doing good in HB, at least for the middle/upper income people.

    Welly Girl

“middle/upper income” people need love and representation as well.

Politics isn’t just about representing low income people and bludgers.
