Report from Palmie

Has been an interesting three days in Palmie. Two of the three days have been good weather, and in fact pretty damn nice. Massey does have a nice campus I must say. We’re meeting in the AgHort Lecture Block.

The meeting on the Telecom Operational Separation Plan went well. Had all the big players (Telecom, Telstra-Clear, Vodafone) there as well as reps from ISPANZ, TUANZ and InternetNZ plus the Government. Around 30 people in all and as InternetNZ noted it was very constructive, and a good start.

Telecom did a very open presentation about their structure and network, and the work already underway to plan for separation. The highlight for me was Telecom showing off their network diagram, above.

Should be simple eh.

Wednesday evening caught up with Krimsonlake of Celebrating Mediocrity. She insisted on taking me to Cafe Mao, but it was indeed a good choice with pavement dining. Chatted about all sorts of topics, people and blogs! A fun evening.

Today I was in at Inspire Net this morning. They’re both the hosts of NZNOG, but also my blog host. Had a good session about possible enhancements to the blog.

Talking briefly this afternoon on telco regulation, spam and digital copyright, along with the INZ Executive Director. Then the drive back to Wellington in time for Babylon 5 DVD watching!
