George W Bush is a smart man Add this story to Scoopit!.

No that’s not (necessarily) my opinion, but the opinion of Helen Clark, nicely recorded for posterity’s sake by Whale Oil.

So no more portraying him as a dumb Texan people – Helen has spoken – he is both a smart man and a clever man.

To be fair, she may have been comparing him to her Caucus :-)

Only “smart men ” laugh at silly women .oops sorry Helen – yeah right !!

  2. phil u Says:

she isn’t mistaking intelligence for low rat-cunning..is she..?

    he has that in spades…

(and do him and gonzales go way back..whoar..!..)

anyway..this is all just part of clarks post-p.m positioning/butt-kissing..

actually..more than a few of us feel slightly ill at the sight/sound of her billing and cooing at this (indictable) war criminal..

    eh..?

not exactly a great moment in new zealand political history..eh..?

  3. Scott Says:

He can’t be clever…doesn’t he claim to be a Christian?

  4. Martin Says:

Bush is so smart. His illegal invasion of Iraq is a master stroke!

  5. Andrew W Says:

To an idiot even a moron can seem smart

  6. Redbaiter Says:

Yawn.. the low IQ moonbats come out.. as dull and predictable as ever.. and of course Philthy Phil with the usual soviet style strategy, smears lies and false charges.. How many jet fighters have you flown Phil???

  7. Kent Says:

And Whaleoil would know — his daddy met George W Bush, don’t you know, “so eat shit and die all you naysayers”. They’re totally BFF!

  8. sonic Says:

It’s DPF’s daily Whale Oil Plug!

Has go something on you Mr F?

  9. Whaleoil Says:

There goes Sonic again, mouthing off with innuendo , one day that mouth will get you a smack.

My dear Grandfather had a saying that best applies to you and Phil. “Empty cans make the most noise”.

  10. rickyjj Says:

Haha if you guys are all so much smarter than Bush why don’t you become PM here and change all these laws you’re always complaining about.

I’m sure it’s easier to much become PM of NZ than President of the US… People of your intelligence should find it a walk in the park.

I almost think you secretly enjoy having a Labour government.

  11. phil u Says:

    “..tuff-guy alert..!..”

whale-blubber..the 44 gallon drum of noise..

    eh..?

    (heh-heh..!..)

    (ya gotta snigger..eh..?..)

  12. kiwi in america Says:

    Martin

Please detail precisely how the invasion of Iraq was illegal?

  13. Whaleoil Says:

At least I know how to use punctuation Phil!

  14. Max Says:

Maybe Martin should have mentioned the lies about the non-existent WMD’s, how it’s got nothing to do with oil, Abu “Disneyland” Ghraib, 660,000 dead Iraqis etc.

Oh and the “Insurgency” is in its last throes.

  15. Fred Says:

Bush was apparently average enough for a Harvard MBA and staying alive in F 102s……reads like phil’s cv doesn’t it?

  16. sonic Says:

    “staying alive in F 102s.”

Yea, dodging all those Vietnamese anti-aircraf missiles over Austin Texas is no easy feat!

  17. the deity formerly known as nigel6888 Says:

Ah Sonic, a cheap shot for every occasion.

Research the fatality rates of those who flew F102s, compare it to Clinton who ran away. Bush could easily have got a deferment or “study” in europe. But he joined the Guard, did all his contracted hours, learned to fly in a very dangerous plane and volunteered for active service. But that doesnt get with the meme does it.

  18. Fred Says:

More ignorance from the slimy weasel….
2nd gen jet fighters of that time have all sorts of nasty flight characteristics in certain configurations.
Crash rates and pilot losses were high in normal operations.

Staying alive is good intelligent stuff.

Bugger, I got some slime on my boot.

  19. Rex Widerstrom Says:

I (perhaps wrongly) view the ability to communicate coherently and formulate a logical train of thought as a marker of intelligence.

As such, I cannot think of a single commenter here (and yes, I do include phil) who doesn’t regularly display greater intelligence than the Leader of the Free World.

Letterman does a marvellous “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches” every night… and GWB provides fresh fodder every single day of the week. A compilation of some of the best is on You Tube.

Chortle chortle, snicker snicker… sigh… I had such respect for David Farrar (yes, for those of you who are laughing at my naivete – I *have* only just started reading the blog recently) until I saw this post where he jumps onboard the juvenile bandwagon of snickering at the “dumb” President…

I would submit to you that it is a pretty “dumb” assertion to claim that someone who has made it to that position (with or without inside help, family connections, etc.) is “dumb”. Link to your funny Youtube videos all you like – what about the Youtube videos that show Bush’s intelligent and speedy responses in debates of the past. At best, I think we could call him alcohol-poisoned and *no* – I am *not* a Bush supporter or right-wing extremist.

  21. David Farrar Says:

Goodness how people misunderstand what I posted.

It is a canon of faith to many on the left that Bush is the thickest human being on the planet, or close to it. Hence having a left wing PM talk about Bush being clever and smart is a wonderful opportunity not to laugh at Bush but to laugh at the Bush is thick brigade.

My own opinion on Bush is stolen from someone else (I can’t remember who). They said Bush is smarter than 90% of Americans – would be in the top decile easily. But that most US Presidents would be in the top 1% or top percentile.

  22. David Farrar Says:

Rex – yes they are hilarious on Letterman. You wonder how many he has in total.

  23. Andrew Davies Says:

One thing though, I reckon Dubya is smart enough to know when he is having sex.

Fair enough – forgive my “leaping to conclusions” about your intentions or meaning to serve the purpose of promoting my own view. I was merely following the example of our country’s leadership ;-) .
