Herald praises PM

The NZ Herald editorial is headlined “Top marks for PM at Oval Office”.

They conclude:

She is one of the veterans of international leadership now and probably respected for her command of issues and judgment. Her reception in Washington, and the realism she has engendered on the nuclear stalemate, is a credit to her.

While I think it is fair for the PM to get credit for her role in improving relations, I think it overlooks the fact that many have been working on this, including the US Embassy in Wellington whose initial overture a few years ago on the 4th of July was rebuffed by Clark at the time.
