Oh stop grandstanding

Politicians Hubbard and Clark should butt out of the Clint Rickards issue.

Hubbard, by coming out declaring he doesn’t want Rickards as Auckland Police Commander has probably just forced the Police to write a blank cheque to Rickards. Any possibility they had of formal disciplinary procedures has been made much more difficult by Hubbard’s outburst. Any semi-decent lawyer will be able to point to what he Mayor said and cite it as an improper influence on police decision making when Rickards is not re-appointed.

So if Rickards walks away with a million dollars, blame politicians who can not keep their mouth shut.

Meanwhile the PM is talking about a need to change the rules of evidence. Umm sorry Helen, but guess who was Prime Minister when the Evidence Act 2006 was passed??? I’ll give you a hint. It’s someone very very close to you.

So despite being Prime Minister of the Government that just last year passed a new evidence act, you didn’t then try to amend the law to allow defendant’s histories to be made known to juries? Why not? And what are you now proposing that your Government couldn’t have done last year?
