60 Minutes

60 Minutes tonight had a good article on the party pill issue- balanced with views from both sides. The head of emergency medicine at Wgtn Hospital, who was part of the programme, is someone I was at university with down in Otago. Takes a bit of adjustment to see him so respectable now.

But the item which was really great was the last one on Genesis who was brain damaged in a car crash a few years ago. Two of her carers, and friends, are Laural and Sharaine Barrett, the current Miss Universe NZ and her equally beautiful sister.

Beauty pageant contestants can get a lot of ridicule for the stereotype of being dumb and/or wanting world peace etc. But to see those two spend most of their week as full-time caregivers to Genesis and her four year old son was really touching. Couldn’t be further away from the stereotype.
