New Zealand Crime and Safety Survey 2006

Jordan quotes from the latest crime and safety survey by the Ministry of Justice.

People should indeed read the report. I found this data interesting:

The incidence rate per 100 households has increased from 2000 to 2005 as follows:

* Burglary from 7% to 9%
* Vehicle theft from 2% to 3%
* Thefts from Vehicles from 10% to 13%
* All household offences from 34% to 44%

And the rate per 100 adults from 2000 to 2005:

* Assaults from 12% to 17%
* Threats from 12% to 18%
* Robbery constant at 1%
* All personal offences from 30% to 42%

Now the authors say survey changes may make comparisons difficult but they did conclude that for household offences at least, the increase was statistically significant.
