The compulsory bloggers union
April 30th, 2007 at 7:45 am by David FarrarFollowing the best traditions of compulsory student associations, Clint Heine has set up a NZ Bloggers Union. He has decided membership is compulsory and co-opted various left wing bloggers as members. The union is going to campaign for stuff they don’t support or believe in, but they will still have to remain members of it, and maybe fund it, so they are not seen as free loading.
Clint is organising elections this week. I have nominated myself for the position of Entertainment Vice-President so I can get to spend lots of other people’s money on stuff I enjoy.
A brilliant concept.

Not usually one to do this, but I thought a comment from Mike E on the post deserved a greater audience (http://clintheine.blogspot.com/2007/04/bloggers-union.html#comment-3871942141374613969)
“You are incorrect. The NZBU is not compulsory, like all these evil lefties are complaining.
It’s voluntary. Noone is forced to own a blog. sheesh.”

and maybe fund it, so they are not seen as free loading.
No DPF, Clint clearly stated:
Membership is free
Also, I don’t see how this is any different to you being wheeled out for the media as a blogging expert…
Solidarity is the best way to advocate for the rights of bloggers – therefore, I’m happy to be a member. Of course, if you’re going to copy the students’ association model, you will be covered under an Act of Parliament, and become an incorporated society, won’t you?

Membership is only free for now. I plan to move we start charging fees.
Yes we need in theory an Act of Parliament. We will lobby the MPs that we need it to stop the free loading bloggers.

Graeme,
You realise I was having a dig at the Student Union people who claim that compulsary student unionism is somehow voluntary…. right…?

MikeE – yes.
I thought it was brilliant.

The best thing is that we will be sympathetic to those members who have special needs – like those left wing members who do not follow our Unions line on political opinion and policy.
For instance the bloggers union is not that impressed with the latest Labour Party education funding increases. With compulsory membership it is lovely to have all our members behind our disliking of more taxpayers money going into that pit, even you Aucklander at Large

It was brilliant Mike.

Such brilliance in encouraged in the NZBU.
As for levies Aucklander at Large, we will follow the traditions of the Student Associations before us and have meetings with as few members present as possible and with a pathetic quorum set. If any members are passing through the blog on the day, or are just trolling or lurking they will be counted as part of the quorom and we will be able to pass any agenda as we see fit.
I am very happy to represent you so feel free to ask any further questions.

All agenda’s and questions addressed by a Bloggers Union? This is a disturbing “Blog Attack “.
I had better alert the lads in the yard to unmuzzle and start starving all the German Shepherds as we expect big trouble .

I take it you will be having elections, like any union.

Is this the same Clint Heine who posted an explicit, photoshopped photo of Helen Clark showing her vagina to Heather Simpson?
Some credibility.

Don’t worry James, as a fan of Britney Spear’s nether regions I was deeply offended at the photoshop too.
X rated pictures of Britney will never be the same for me after Clint’s picture… never

James that photo was actually created and published at varsity.co.nz by some student who I presume was grateful for his interest free loan.
Clint just republished it.

James Leadbeater tried to sound all outraged on my blog but didn’t get very far. However I see his ISP address is one of the most frequent viewers of that Helen pic. I think he secretly likes it!
Charlie Tan, we had elections and thanks for making up the quorom. All election results are on the blog. We all look forward to representing you and Mr Leadbeater.
