Could someone tell me which war those “forefathers who fought for a Christian country” were involved in? I remember several references to wars being fought variously that small nations might be free or to clear the storm clouds over europe, but I’m fucked if I can remember one involving NZ soldiers that was fought for Christianity.

More people than I expected.

There was an amusing moment on Morning Report yesterday. Sean sarcastically asked Archbishop Tamaki: “So how many protesters will there be? Dozens or hundreds?”

The cardinal replied, after being momentarily taken aback by the acidic tone of voice: “Thousands, Sean.”

His holiness can sure pull in a crowd, much, much bigger ones than the usual rent-a-mob ones someone like Valerie Morse arranges, I will concede him that.

The Destiny crew should check with Uncle Joris and get their facts straight before rushing off to Waitangi to be so intrusive and disruptive. After all, what right do they have to be there?

I’dbe curious to know Bishop Brian’s opinions with regard to Jews. Whilst not numerically large, I’m fairly sure there have been members of the Jewish community in NZ since the earliest European settlements.

I seem to recall a lot of people here declaring their reverence for our the sacrifice of our fallen on ANZAC day. Some of you should practice what you preach.

Instead, what we get is the usual drivel from Farrar’s Fascists. Maybe redbaiter with get a little runic “FF” for his shirt collar so he’ll be suitably dressed when he beats the outlanders, and imprisons the traitors?

Mr Tamaki and his followers and sympathisers are fearful. They fear that their Christian religion is being deliberately undermined by this government. The government says the inter-faith conference is not a government initiative – which is simply a falsehood – the presence of government leaders and representatives like Mr de Bres show that.
Given this government’s record of deceit, the protestations by Mrs Clark are not believable. NZers do not believe Mrs Clark and her statements. Given the numbers of non-Christian representatives in the NZ delegation to the conference, out of all proportion to their numbers in our population, the fears of Mr Tamaki and his flock are reasonable.
The question we should ask ourselves is this – why is the government doing this ? There is absolutely no need for any such conference, there is no need for ‘statements of religious diversity’, there is no need to declare that NZ is not a Christian country. The way we are proceeding is working pretty well.
I suspect Mr Tamaki and his people think that this government wants to undermine and maybe worsen the position of the Christian religion in NZ – as a part of the continuing Labour ‘progressive’ campaign to improve NZers and make them better people – better by the lights of progressive belief.
It doesn’t appear that God is about to save NZ, perhaps Mr Tamaki and his flock will. Certainly the Labour government won’t.

Well there are many things, the most egregious of which is probably Bryan’s intollerance for homosexuality. That kind of repugnant bigotry has no place in a modern secular state, and I think it’s safe to say the vast majority of New Zealanders will agree with me.

So whats the point in YOUR post AJ, that just had to be made?? My advice to anyone who thought things had gone down hill would be to not risking worsening that impression by leaving off topic sanctimonious messages on a thread that died a long time ago.

Furthermore, I reject the accusation that this is no longer “a place for real discussion on politics and current affairs”.

This has always been a popular site and traffic shows no sign of dropping off. (in fact I think its steadily increasing) Mr. Farrar puts a lot of effort into writing mostly interesting and provocative lead comments. There are threads on here that are interesting, and there are threads on here that quickly die. That’s the way it goes.

Whatever, its doubtful that your supercilious empty of real content spiteful little contribution contributed much more than the worst message on this thread. So you’ve got nothing to feel superior about, especially given that attempting to portray yourself as up-market was transparently the real reason for your contribution.

What you and your thuggish mates on the left need to realize AJ is the days when they could bully and abuse those on the political right into silence and remain free of criticism are long gone.

Well hell, I can’t remember what political stance AJ normally takes, but to make such a comment seemed to me typical of a leftist. If I’m wrong about that and AJ isn’t a leftist then I withdraw and apologise. My criticism on the message remains valid tho. There’s just no point writing comments here saying the site has turned to shit. You either write something sensible and pertinent or STFU. IMHO.
