I really don’t want Emirates Team NZ to win this… I don’t give a f*ck about sailing and it should not dominate our news like it does every time it is on.
It is not about the people but about the boat design.
On an unrelated matter…
Check out http://www.primeminister.govt.nz/oldpms/1957holyoake.html and the other PMs biographies. Have a look at the bottom of the page and the three links go to… the Labour Party’s homepage! That’s a .govt.nz site directly linking to the Labour Party website for no good reason.

It’s not just the labour PMs it is under either. Go to Muldoon’s page and there’s still a link to the labour party! (although probably fair to be honest…)

I wonder if the cup will return here. I thought I heard noises that the Emirates money wants it somewhere far from NZ. Shame. It was great fun getting out to see the boats race last time. Great aptmosphere in the cup village too.

If it’s not about people then why has every non-joke challenger (and the defenders) got Kiwi sailors in key skilled positions on their boats — helmsman, tactician, mainsail trimmer, bowman or runing the whole show?
Luna Rossa have Tom Schnackenberg, Alan Smith on the bow, raw meat grinding. Desafío Español would have been nothing without John Cutler — that much was obvious just listening to the audio feed during races. Oracle had no fewer than eleven Kiwis on board. And of course Alinghi have half of the 1995/2000 Kiwi team.

I have no doubt warm-up regattas will be hosted in Dubai, possibly San Fran or Sydney if Emirates Team NZ win, just as Alinghi hosted warm-up “acts” in Sweden, and Naples, IIRC.
But if Team NZ win, the cup will with 99% probability come back to the RNZYS to host in Auckland region. But the word I hear in Auckland is Gulf Harbour might be a better prospect for a Challengers/Defenders base than the present setup in Auckland Viaduct. After all, most of the challengers’ bases got demolished for apartments once the cup left in 2003.

I think you’re being a bit optimistic Zutroy.
New low on TV One “News” Update just occured. At the end of the supposedly impartial segment we were told to stay up and wish “The Boat” on…
Utterly contemptable.

A bit optimistic there Zutroy..
TV 1 “News” hit a new low at 7:30 tonight. In their highlights package they told up to stay up tonight to “help our boys” win the LV Cup.
Utterly disgraceful

It’s amazing that so many people are now interested in the races who didn’t give a damn until Team NZ started whitewashing the opposition.
Shallow guys, shallow.

I hope the rich boys bring back Mandy when they’re finished and I hope we win the rugger cup . Stuff the prettyboy /yachtfinks and moneyfinks , can’t we get the Frogs to do a rainbow warrior on the boat, so I don’t have to watch the crap on TV ?

I just spent the weekend in Valencia watching races 2 and 3. I saw the first race on the water and the second in the cup village.
It felt like half of New Zealand had descended on the port for the weekend and from speaking to some people close to the team they were surprised with the amount of support in town. From the looks on their faces as they sailed back into their base they greatly appreciated it though. It was a loud electric atmosphere with the tune 3-0 ringing around.
The cup base is alot like the viaduct although in typical Spanish fashion difficult to find somewhere to eat until after 9pm. The place is dripping with money although there was a distict lack of super yachts. Definatley fewer than were in Auckland in ’00 and ’03.
The weekend was fantastic and got the patriotic blood bubbling again. Lets hope we can experience scenes like 95 again when the country stopped work to welcome them home.
Bring it home boys.

Frankys obviously never been sailing.
Great result from the team. Achivements like this continue to keep NZ in the worlds view.Which is good for all of us.

D4J (and Franky), it’s on at 1am and replayed at 7am. What’s your problem? Personally I can’t stand rugby, but I won’t start crying when that dominates the airwaves in a few months time.

Just can’t get into “The Cup!”,…if Mandy and her mates were crewing?!
