Clark on Parliamentary Prayer

NZPA reports that Helen Clark is distancing herself and Labour from the review of the Parliamentary Prayer.

I have blogged previously that I think it should be retained but modified so it can be said by MPs of all faiths, not just Christians.

But the PM sees this as a talkback issue so is scared to have an opinion on it.

Miss Clark said she thought most MPs would not want the traditional prayer changed.

Yes well thank you for that unscientific opinion poll. But what they didn’t get the PM to state was her personal view on the prayer.

I find it somewhat frustrating that on the few areas I do agree with the PM such as republicanism and the role of religion in Government, she doesn’t have the conviction of her beliefs to take a stand and show some leadership

Mind you to be fair to her, she is hardly alone on that score!
