I own my own home and so do most of my friends. We don’t get a kick out of “staying in a house that is not a flat for a week” or “staying in a place where the bedroom is not the same space as the kitchen” because we do so every day. Besides, if I “sat house” for a week, I’d have to find a house-sitter of my own, which kind of defeats the purpose.

I suspect also that the guy who invited Jenny Shipley around for dinner was not a house-sitter, but, as David said, he was “borrowing” the house for the purpose of entertaining the PM. Now I don’t know about you, but if somebody opened their whole house for the express purpose of entertaining yours truly, I do think it would be only polite to find out who owned the house so I could thank them if I ever met them. And I find it a little hard to believe that one who had a vested interest in meeting the Prime Minister would lend her the house and not try to make it known whose it was. In fact, I’d say there is a high probability that she was there.

So in this instance, either

a) Jenny Shipley is a bad liar

or

b) Jenny Shipley is a rude bitch.

You can choose which you believe.

It seems that Gerry Brownlee is now accusing DBP of directly saying to the Chief Executive that he wanted Setchell gone. I suppose he has some evidence for this, right?

Well, Charlie, I’ve accepted invitations to dinners and parties without checking out a LIM report on the address listed on the invite first. Nor do I demand to see the guest list, so as to avoid being tainted by the ideologically unacceptable.

Two months ago I went to dinner with some friends at a place that some friends of theirs were house sitting. I don’t even know the name of the owner of the house. I don’t know anything about them except they had a great house for entertaining.

I’ve also used a friends apartment for the same while she has been away. Do you not get invited out much?

I’m always invited to dinner at the houses of people I don’t know. I never ask whose house it is, and I most certainly do not ask questions about the family pictures on the mantlepiece, knowing instictively that the house I am in does not belong to the person who is hosting me.

[DPF:Charlie - it is a fact that JS and JV had never met each other. Sure JS may have asked KR's whose place it was but it doesn't change the fact that JS never met JV and was 100% correct when she said she she had never met her. I doubt there were any family pictures as IIRC it was JV's Wgtn apartment for when she was down - not her main home. This is all irrelevant now anyway, but Selma lies so constantly I feel obliged to point them out from time to time]

Selma trumpets this as a lie, but once again she is wrong. Jenny Shipley never met Jane Vesty. She had dinner with Kevin Roberts at Jane Vesty’s place in Wellington, but Jane was not there and Jenny had no idea whose house it was. Jane’s company worked for Kevin so she offered her Wgtn house as a suitable venue to have dinner with the PM.

I can see everyone’s point about the current government corruption – vote labour out, stick it to the man.

But seriously, I suppose that Selma’s behaviour isn’t really on though, what with all the fair and balanced comments emanating from the national supporters on this site.

Anyway, the fact that the media and the nats are jumping all over a rhetorical slip shows that they don’t actually have any evidence of actual shaky dealings by the minister himself.

Perhaps they should all just fuck off and investigate something real.

If there is no higher moral authority than man and all men are supposedly equal then at the end of the day ‘right’ is gonna be determined by power nothing else. Might is right. Hence their need to gain control of all types of power. This explains why socialists always tax higher (even if they return it back via refunds etc) – because money is a form of power so they must control it as much as possible. And they won’t trust people like Setchell to be principled because they themselves are not. Liars expect others to lie just like most thieves believe all people steal. These people can’t understand that there are people who work to gain power by honest and transparent means. They play by different rules (none) than us mugs.
