Silly Labour behaviour re Maori Party

The Maori Party obviously still has Labour worried. Some of Labour’s more excitable Maori MPs were demanding the Maori Party MPs resign because the Maori Party did not have the numbers to pass the first reading of their Foreshore & Seabed Bill.

This is about as sensible as demanding the Green Party resign because greenhouse gas levels are still rising,or that NZ First resign because we still allow immigrants in.

The Maori Party has four MPs, not 61 MPs.  Does Labour really think Maori voters are so stupid that they expected the Maori Party could unilaterally repeal the law?  Of course not.  They expect them to keep the issue alive and make their best effort to repeal it.

The logical response for Maori voters to to increase the number of Maori Party MPs to increase their leverage. Of course that would probably result in more overhang MPs which undermines the proportionality of MMP.
