The HB DHB Inquiry

It is so reassuring that both the PM and the Minister of Health managed to announce the results of the inquiry into the HB DHB, before they even announced the review team. Helen and Pete have stated publicly they expect no adverse findings.

And despite the fine qualities of the review team, the key is the terms of reference. Outside the terms of reference are the involvement of the former Minister. Why did she appoint a DHB member who was bidding for a contract with the DHB? Why did she not follow the standard process of consulting with the DHB Chair in making the appointment?

The Auditor-General is also going to take a look despite the Minister again calling the issue “almost nothing”. Even the AG’s ambit though doesn’t cover the role of the Minister in making appointments.
