gee still not bad after 9 years .
what was 2002 like for national when the number of list seats fell from 17 to six plus 3 electorates lost as well.
Thats the way to ‘retire’ being booted out by the voters.
National has had some retirements as well, Don finally gets to draw the government super from his 13 years as a public servant.
And who has heard of Nicky Wagner, Shane Ardern Colin King katrina Shanks John hayes and of course Brian Connell is on the retirement list for saying some inconvient truths
Ps dont forget Nationals ’50th’ member, who wont be back

Clearly you’re not from the South Island Selma. As much as it pains me to admit, several of the MPs you mentioned are quite well known on the Mainland. Nicky is also an ECan Councillor and ran a high-profile (but obviously unsuccessful) campaign in Chch Central; Shane Ardern will forever be remembered as the MP who drove a tractor up the steps of Parliament; and Colin King (IIRC) is a former Golden Shears champion.

Poor ol Jimbo Sutton, one of the few Labourites who doesn’t make me quite want to throw up when I hear him speak.. a farmer with a family making way for a queer lawyer.. that’s what you call “progressive”…

I know it would probably kill some of us, but could you try posting a comment that bears some relationship to reality?

The Waikato Times quoted Dianne Yeates saying that she wasn’t ready to quit politics.
When one studies the last election results one will see that the trend in Hamilton East was much more so for the candidate than it was for the party. That is, she could not match it with the first time Tory, but the Labour Party vote held up remarkably well. Labour will be a much better party without the dross of Yeates. She has the humility of Benson-Pope and cannot comprehend that now is the time for her to rack off.

They already have. Roger Nome is their love child.

Connell is mental. He’d fit right in with NZF.

Love the emotionally charged “out the door”. As much as you’d like to believe it David, reasonable MP turnover is not the sign of a revolting socialist regime in its death throes.

pedro: there’s certainly some deadwood in National Party caucus too. It’s certainly a long way down the line in terms of rejuvenation – but geez, there are still some pretty tired under-performers in National’s front and middle benches. A bit more churn would have been beneficial to the Tories.
