iYomu

Stuff reports on the latest social networking site, with the difference being this one is designed for adults! iYomu.com launches in a few weeks. The name stands for I, you, me and us.
I got a preview of the site last week and was impressed with the look and feel of it. It presents some information graphically in a pretty neat way. The feature that most appealed to me was the 1 GB of storage space which operates almost as a virtual hard drive. One can just drag your “my documents” icon over to back it up. I can see that being pretty popular, especially in areas without data caps.
One can check the beta site out for yourself with the password being iyomubeta.
Mauricio on Geekzone has also blogged on it. NBR profiles it also as does Peter Griffin in the Herald.
I am always impressed with entrepeneurs who are willing to take a risk and invest their money in a good concept or idea. It is thanks to them we live in a dynamic world – people like Rod Drury with Xero, and the people behind iYomu. Of course not all succeed (and there is no reward without risk) but innovation is how we move forward.

Oddly, “yomu” means “read” in Japanese.

I’ve signed up (hardly a recommendation). Looks good and the idea is certainly worthwhile.

Great to see a quality alternative for people who want social networking without the hassle of Myspace, Bebo etc. It also has some cool concepts such as the “vault”.

Hmmm funny to note that kiwifiedpom has put the same comment on a lot of other blogs… Is there a student sitting at an iyomu desk getting paid $10/hr to post? Or maybe that’s part of the PR strategy? Or, to go one step further – isn’t founder David a NZ based Brit?

Wooah people are a touch cynical… Afraid I am only one iyomubeta user who really liked the site and wished to spread the word about it. The conclusions based on a couple of copied comments on near identical blogs…
