There's a differance between the Dentiny Party and the new Family Party. The Family Party hasn't been named after a church so the coincidence of politics and beleivers are clearly seperated. And it's hard to think that consciously this new political party hasn't already made significant inroads in some minds without even politicing. Hopefully voters won't blame the church or GOD for the change in direction. It was a good idea to change direction so people who are Anti - Christian can't blame God for democratic proceedures of this new political vehicle. However a new MMP party will help the average kiwi wether like this party or not. What have they to apologise for or have they offended someone, morals values etc are what helped create democracy. Judging this new party might be at your own peril but maybe you're in for a big surprise.
The Naivity of Gorden Copeland does not reflect anything on this party, who said Richard Lewis and Paul Adams are not worthy exponents in the political arena?. Gorden got his political practice on United Futures back and showed how untrustworthy he was 'saying' he couldn't work with Richard Lewis. Personally it's a good thing hes gone because he can't be trusted! Who can prove the Family Party won't win Mangere or Manukau East. Why are so many poeple so judgemental and spreading their negativity! Just maybe people thought voting for the Destiny NZ party was a waste of their vote during the last election but times and things have changed. Those same voters might have a change of heart this time 'Who only knows'?

Christianity has always been a relationship with God. Politics is a relationship with their constituents. At least this new party wont block out their constituents like labour. I can't see what all the negativity is about, the country needs a new party without a hidden agenda, like Labours vote steeling lollypop pragmatic idealogies. Do all Kiwis want to leave the country 'no', but they have too because the Labour are control freaks, they tax everyone to oblivian and give nothing back, like relentless professional thiefs. Voters have memories even if the new political family party is unsuccessful it wiill take Labour votes. I guess thats why so many people are judgemental and doing their best to BLock the Family Parties success!!

The problem is not just with a Christian party, but Christians who think they know best for other people and want to rule over them. Any claim to know best, is not of a free society where all are equal (regardless of their race or religion), but it's anti-thesis.

If they're targetting Mangere and Manukau they might need to change a few of Destiny's policies. I doubt flat tax will go down too well.

I wish Tamaki would just hurry up and ascend to his rightful place at the right hand of God or whereever, and STFU.

Although not one myself I know a lot of decent Christian people (my business partner is a member of an evangelical church, thus so are most of the people I meet through him). Without exception they're self-effacing, when it comesto their Christianity and put their beliefs into practice through charity, volunteer work and trying to conduct themselves honestly and with decency. Pretty much the opposite of the ArchDeaconess in other words.

"And for the right the sociologist Max Weber argued very persuasively that capitalism’s foundation was the Protestant work ethic."

You mean there was no work ethic prior to 1517? The Romans, Chinese, Indians, Greeks, Egyptians and Persioans were just a bunch of idle wasters? Wow. Who knew?

"Even the mindless drongos that inhabit south auckland aren’t stupid enough to vote for a Family Party."
Are they not human because they're brown.? Taito P Field is more respected than most of us among the Pi community. He did not get that respect for being stupid or evil.

The Samoan national crest has inscribed upon it: "Faavae ile Atua Samoa" that is Samoa is founded on God. South Auckland may be the achillies heel of this government.

So maybe the comment that 'Christ would not be seen dead in Parliament' was slightly facetious. The point was that Christianity is totally incompatible in the current conduct of Parliament.
[Consider "Patience and kindness, neither jealous, conceited or proud, nor ill-mannered, selfish or irritable, keeps no record of wrongs and rejoices in the truth"]

And so far supposed Christian parties display few of these attribute either - they're not Christian, rather just another bloody party with their own narrow agenda, skulking under a banner they don't live up to .

But if they mislead people into voting for them and take a seat like South Auckland off Labour I guess that can only be for the greater good.

Ross Nixon said "We need Christian politicians, not Christian parties."

Agree 100% Ross - I would be most unlikely to vote for a Christian party, especially if there were indications that party would not make the 5% threshold, and there was the likelihood that my vote would transfer to the incumbent. I would far rather see Christian politicians involved with the mainstream political parties where they are far more likely to be of influence.

I am not really in favour of a Christian party particularly. I think we need to be salt and light in the world, so therefore Christians should be in all parties. The Christian principles of justice are actually foundational for the left, even though they have been co-opted and perverted by Karl Marx and co-. And for the right the sociologist Max Weber argued very persuasively that capitalism's foundation was the Protestant work ethic.

But I wish that Christians in politics would be Christians. Particularly those Christians in the Labour party appear to routinely go against Christian principles. Winnie Laban, a Presbyterian elder, voting for prostitution to become legal was a particularly egregious example.

I'd like Christians to stand for the dignity of mankind, that we have been created in the image of God and that love for God and love for our neighbour are the highest values. Therefore we want the best for our people, and the best is not the sexual agenda of licence that Labour has been promoting.

helmet,,

thats the remark of a politically naieve and simple minded drone

Its the back lash that matters

Its the lesson that labour needs to learn.

now, my friend, if you are going to partake in political discussion, you don't need to be a political scientist, I'm proof of that, but you do need to be politically coherent, and I must say I find more of that from D4J than you.

If you can read, do so, you will be fascinated.

If the Polynesians in Sth Akld understood the EFB, and being stauch church goers, many would flock to a christian based party that stood for their conservative values.

The labour party has slapped their srongest supporters on both cheeks
with their morally repugnant anti christian and anti social policies and once the Polynesians find a support base that recognises their values, labour will lose them big time.

without the Sth Akld vote Labour is lost.
