    stop banks..!..

    (scary thought..!..eh..?..banks as mayor..?..shudder..!..)

run/walk/ride to your nearest post office..!

    voting papers in hand..!

  2. Max Call (182) Says:

but will the opinion polls relate to the voting with voting so low?
What i mean by this is that a lot of a popular candidates supporters (in the poll) may not actually vote.

  3. Wycroft (433) Says:

Oh heck, as much as I think Hubbard’s been a woeful mayor for Auckland I actually felt very sorry for him this morning. Blind Freddy could see that it was going to piss down in Auckland today, and it was cold, and it was windy. Almost a Wellington day! And at 8.10, in tiny red stubbies and a black ‘Vote Hubbard’ t-shirt, there was Dick, out walking, the only living soul in the Tamaki Drive no-man’s land between the estuary and Mechanics Bay. Head down, a look of grim, humourless determination on his face, the water cascading off his glasses in sheets. It reminded me of Alastair Cooke talking about Bill Clinton playing golf alone, in the rain, after dark, when his political career was winding down and he just couldn’t see a way through the depression of a job poorly done. It was the loneliest, most pathetic thing I’ve seen in years. And I really did feel very sorry for him.

  4. philu (7437) Says:

the far north stats fits with the call made to me a week or so ago on the race up there..

    by a local reporter/columnist..

mainly that the east/west divide up there is being brought sharply into focus/(campaigned on?) by/in this race..

and his call was that it is close..

but he picks brown to take it on the day..

  5. Pascal (1875) Says:

Wait … do you also live in Hubbard’s Cereal Wonderland of Auckland, philu? Ah, but you don’t pay rates and cover most of his council’s cockups, do you? Bring back Banksie, I say! Heck, pick anybody off the street. They could do a better job than Hubbard.

  6. Bevan (1938) Says:

    stop banks..!..

    (scary thought..!..eh..?..banks as mayor..?..shudder..!..)

Ahh, Phil, I know you cant stand it when your side doesnt win, but that democracy mate. Just like the Ab’s losing to the French last week, and National losing to Labour in 2005 – I didnt like it, but nothing to do but live with it and hope the respective teams get their shit together before the next time round comes.

  7. davemc (102) Says:

I’d love to see a poll for Wellington but if there has been one anywhere, I missed it.

  8. better (40) Says:

Just curious, the Auckland poll is that the one from about 3 weeks ago?

  9. pdm (574) Says:

    Do you have Hastings?

I think Nixon – the fellow is pushing hard for an International Airport in HB – may be pushing the incumbent Yule hard.

  10. Max Call (182) Says:

I think Hastings and Napier could do with some people who could work together. Old rivalries between the cities is holding them both back

  11. rfhoward (238) Says:

I can imagine a lot of leftist people would be disappointed to see John Banks come back being a strong Right politician.

  12. better (40) Says:

Why would anyone want him back? All I have heard is some people don’t like Hubbard, or at least what the council he worked with did and did not do.

    What has Banks done?

  13. James W (277) Says:

    Transmogrified :)

  14. David Farrar (1310) Says:

    Heh

  15. llew (1522) Says:

I can imagine a lot of leftist people would be disappointed to see John Banks come back being a strong Right politician.

I can imagine a lot of people (fullstop) would be disappointed to see John Banks come back because he’s barking.

  16. better (40) Says:

Well yes apart from flip-flopping from prick to “nice guy” TM, has he got any more sensible and useful since the judge found him useless in the trial with his ex business partners?

  17. unaha-closp (667) Says:

If ever there were a year for a high profile anybody to run for Auckland mayor this was it. Both Banks and Hubbard have despised as proven useless mayors. The minnows are minnows and/or kooks. Why the hell did C&R pick Banks? It is like they wanted to pick a gauranteed one term mayor.[/rant]

  18. better (40) Says:

Cameron Brewer? Cameron Slater? watch this space.

  19. James W (277) Says:

Cam Brewer is a friend of Banksie. Give him a few years though.

And unaha-closp, C&R did not pick Banksie. They do not endorse a mayoral candidate and Banks is running as an independent.

That’s not to say though, that C&R people won’t be voting for Banksie and vice-versa, i’m sure they will be.

  20. baxter (893) Says:

The only reason I’m disappointed to see Banksie elected Mayor is because he will no longer be availiable to run the only early morning talkback worth listening to.

  21. philu (7437) Says:

now baxter..you have anoxymoronic issues there..eh..?

“..early morning talkback worth listening to..”

    (i mean..you are just being silly there..!..eh..?..)

    phil(whoar.co.nz)

  22. Inventory2 (4114) Says:

Please God, let DPF be wrong about Wanganui. Amen

  23. Rex Widerstrom (2516) Says:

Inventory2: If God answers your prayer, I’ll sell Him my soul. Oh wait, that’s the other guy…

  24. Tauhei Notts (598) Says:

Possibly a little way off the thread, but, has anybody else noticed that ratepayers who live outside of an area have not had their voting papers sent to them this year. I have properties in Auckland city, Hamilton city and Tauranga city and did not get any votes there this year. Friends with beach houses on the Coromandel Peninsula did not get a vote there this year. One friend got a vote at Hahei, but as a family trust owns the property he he had to get four pages of forms signed by no less than a notary public.
I dearly wanted to vote for John Banks as I think the bludging Jafas deserve the bastard.

  25. hinamanu (1559) Says:

    Inventory

There’s nothing surprising about Michael Laws winning back Wanganui

His protest against gangs was superb PR.

With more and more aucklanders heading to W

  26. hinamanu (1559) Says:

with more and more aucklanders heading to Wanganui, Laws is easily going to be holding a very lucrative and prestigious mayoralty.

Be interesting to see what timely initiatives he concocts this time round
