October 4th, 2007 at 8:24 am by David Farrar

Auckland Mayor Dick Hubbard and Newmarket Business Association Head Cameron Brewer can’t agree on the relative lengths of Queen Street to Broadway, so Cameron has challenged the Mayor to a $1 million wager on the issue.

Good to see you linking back to Whale DPF, is he off your shitlist now? I’m still waiting for your feeds on the EFB to turn up on killthebill though…

As opposed to my fantasy world where I don’t invent things? Nice use of redundancy David, but then again you’ve had so much practice at it. But it’s good to see you’re posting on the KtB site again. Have you bought a tee-shirt yet? Will you be wearing it for your next TV appearance?

The odd thing is your posts on KtB only just came up this morning but they are dated as posted yesterday and the day beforehand. Memory hole?

Has Cameron Brewer been out of the news too much since his stolen credit card turned up in use at a knock shop.

LOL, so the NZ Truth is the source for this supposed exchange? It’s hard to know if it’s just another one of their parodies of the Herald. 95% of their articles seem to be. This one’s got no more credible quoted sources than their usual “Vice girls/gangs/crooked coppers say….”. Which is not to say their sources are bullshit, probably you can get a vice girl to say anything. It’s just not a particularly credible source.

Their boxing commentary is excellent though, and they’re not kidding when they say they’ve got a big personals section.

Oh and Robinsod, personally attacking DPF is hardly on topic for this thread, however weak the topic may be.

Yo Ben – I didn’t personally attack anyone. I just exercised my freedom of speech to ask a few pertinent questions but y’know if you want to knock me for that then that’s your right too. And anyway if David’s so keen to promote the KtB campaign I’d expect him to wear the merchandise during TV appearances – it’s pretty basic PR.

So Cameron Brewer is an avid Newmarket supporter? I don’t get why you’d think the cost of upgrading Newmarket would come close to the work being done on Queen Street. There are other things to consider too:

    – Queen Street is more ‘accessible’ than Newmarket in a financial sense. This gives it a larger demographics and justifies more money being spent on it in the first place.

    – Queen Street has a higher density of public transport stops than Newmarket. In the same token there are probably more underground services closer together such as fiber, plumbing, etc.

    - Queen Street appears to have a much higher density commercial and residential presence. Again, spend more there because more people will benefit from it.

Years ago in 1991 we submitted some footage of Denver to both the Auckland and Hamilton councils. Denver effectively paved its main strip and only allowed a couple of free buses to travel up and down it. Think Cuba Mall but much bigger. It was light-years nicer than Queen St or Victoria St at the time. It’s really good to see Auckland catching up in this regard.

I think Newmarket has painted itself in a corner.

Its sposed to cater for Remuera but the way the countries going New maket is gonna become a ghost town,,

Now,, maybe this is why auckland is going to come under one super council. The place is gonna shrink,, I see the projections,,

and guess where tey’re fleeing,, Michael Laws country. He’s gonna be the wealthiest mayor in town,, This guys forward thinking is amazingly astute

People really are moving to Wanganui.
