I merely pointing out that Ireland’s improvement in living conditions and wages is a result of strong economic growth and a strong union movement that is willing to work with the government and employers. They call it the "social partnership approach". On the other hand de-unionised economies like the US and New Zealand have had strong economic growth but low wage growth, and a consequential stagnation of living standards.

Do you understand?

No, I think he wants NZ to convert all its dairy farms into lucrative, disease-free potato farms.

"Roger Kerr was on message about converting NZ into the next Ireland"

So he wants to reinstate centralised collective bargaining and a tripartite corporatist economy?

Well it was very interesting and well attended, thanks to the BRT for putting on a good spread. Speeches were good and short, no rambling on! Charles Chauvel clearly had the legal machinations down, and Bill Day was about as straight up as you can get with his answers re RMA and other issues.

Roger Kerr was on message about converting NZ into the next Ireland, Singapore or Hong Kong, and gave lots of time to some persistent questioners. Some controversial questions about the EFB and anonymous funding of parties- lots of points of view expressed. Privatisation was another hot topic.

I imagine a lot of the BRT forums are preaching to the converted, this one certainly wasn't! It was refreshing to learn more about the reason for the existence of the BRT as well- didn't realise it was actually as old as all that, thought it was pretty much a product of the 1990s.

Dixon's reference gives proof of nothing. Even if one accepts the charge as unchallengeable truth, it does not even specify the particular song, and does not amount to evidence that any stations acted on the advice. As usual with Dixon, his words are far from the actuality. Forget the deceit tho. To call this story "proof" is the action of a damn fool.

"Veteran Capitol producer, Ken Nelson, who worked at WJJD radio in Chicago in the late forties, recalled in a 1992 interview that FBI agents advised the station not to play Travis' records,"

"Where does RB get the anger from?"

Moron. so insulated from reality, so immersed in leftist ideology, he thinks that to disagree with the utter laughable bullshit that is the foundation of leftism is a sign of anger. Grow up Dixon. Your ideology is based on legends and distortion and lies.

Sam, thanks for the history.

Just so I can be clear, we are talking about a song that there was some pressure around in the late 1940s. It was rerecorded in the mid 50s and became a hit. So we are really arguing about something that happened 50 years ago as somehow relevant to today? Dunno why RB even bit (presumably because he didn't check it and just reacted).

nih: Hey, can I help it that my parents were unoriginal? And I have been here a fair while longer than PaulW or Paul - personally I think they should have chosen much more distinctive handles given that I was here first. Not that keen to change mine since I use it in a number of places, and it would feel a bit like I was using multiple handles. That was something that RB once accused me of, and that I have never done, although I admit to posting as anonymous on some blogs that insist on word verification but don't display that word for verification in Firefox.

Where does RB get the anger from? Look at the anger he manages to me recounting how the song '16 tons' was banned from a number of radio stations (under govt pressure) when it was released becuase of its anti-capitialist overtones:

"..and the PROOF of this assertion is?? If it hadn’t been for free enterprise, the song would never have been recorded and it would never have sat at the top of the charts for as long as it did."

Notice, he instantly, angrily assumes that the story isn't true, challenages me to prove a tiny little aside, for no other reason than that the story implies bad behaviour on account of capitalist organisations. Now, I know it because I've read a background on the song, but even if I were to provide a link that wouldn't be good enough for RB.

Incredible

Oh how awful that the BRT might try and interest young people in policy debate. Quick let's pass a law against it - oh wait Labour is already trying that.

Robinson was banned for repeated trolling with the final offence being link whoring a political article in a thread about rugby.

Tane:

PaulL, our mate ’sod was banned the other day with no explanation. The joke was that a street-fighting, foulmouthed roustabout like Robinsod is hardly going to cry over a one month Kiwiblog ban. But then it’s never as funny when you have to explain it, eh?

You besmirch DPF. He banned Robinsod for excessive trolling (although, admittedly, he's by no means the worst culprit around here)
