“Young NZ First” will never work because most youth who decide to become politically active have strong left or right views. This will be at odds with NZ First and Winston Peters as they are really nothing more then populists with no principals, seeking power. DPF did a good post a few day’s ago about how everyone entering politics should have at least one unpopular view to show they have princiapls. Can anyone please tell me an unpopular policy that Winston has?

National’s finally realised its time to burn the last bridges with NZF huh?

After Ron Mark’s Agenda IV I guess the pin finally dropped.

And the electoral maths keeps getting harder.

What would really help National is NZF failing to get back in – rather than have NZF agaisnt them, National would get a share of the votes wasted on NZF.

And by the way Ron Mark and Peter Brown would rate as better than 90% of the current motley line up of failed unionists et al that currently makes up Labour and it would immediately give Goff something decent to work with.

LMAO!! I love the comments! facsinates me!

For those of us who understand social change – social policy: there is a new trend in politics called the ‘third way’. This means that the traditional left and right wing of politics is slowly dimishing, which is good for centralist party’s like NZ First!! hey wow!! The only problem is Labour and National are racing to take the central party turf. What ever happened to left and right? like I said… it’s dimishing and like all optimistic young people these days… no-one really gives a toss about left and right. ‘Third Way’ is about taking what’s good from the right and what’s good from the left.

Young NZ First is here to stay (just has Mr Peters – as he’s returned to parliament for the last 14 yrs having set-up NZ First – the oldest minority party in NZ history) … a good track record, indeed. And the only minority party who’s had the most policies implemented. That’s right – talk is cheap, which is why some of the comments I read above makes me laugh.

Someone once remarked that being old consists of younger people telling you what you already know, but using a loud voice while they do it.

Another opined that ‘If you aren’t a communist at 20, you must have no heart, if you aren’t a conservative at 40, you must have no brains.”

I’m also reminded of the scene in ‘Father Ted’ where Ted visits another very elderly and dissolute priest who asks if he’d like to see ‘his collection’. Out of politeness, Ted agrees. There in a darkened room was a variety of nazi regalia, SS uniform, Flags, weaponry, posters of Hitler, the works. Father Ted, at a loss for something polite to say remarks. ‘Isn’t if funny how you get more right-wing as you get older?”

I have to add that any thread with a Blackadder reference and Father Ted reference must have something to recommend it.

You young people just have to get used to the fact that we babyboomers are going to be the most powerful voting bloc in recent history Not just in NZ but in every Western country.

We are the most selfish bunch of arseholes God put breath into We want it all. State funded pensions state funded medicare etc etc.

And the politicans who want to rule will have to give us what we want or forever be the Opposition.

So better get used to it.

Witness Australia where after 15 years of a scheme they have 1 TRILLION dollars invested. Their babyboomers are going to retire with a big head start on ours.

LOL!!! gd, I have to agree with you. Kiwisaver is just another example of how far behind we are… so while National plans to sell more state assets for badly invested fast cash (blood money) and while Labour is running out of social engineering ideas… what then?? It’s no wonder people flock to Australia!! We (our country) is far behind in the OECD it’s not funny.

We need more more bloody Winstons… black and white – straight to the point – no pissing around. Common sense policies and must I mention a very well thought through Youth Affairs Policy. Winnie’s had to pick up the pieces for so long… whislt minnie mouse and mickey mouse (Lab and Nat) continue to fool themselves and their constituents.

entertain-me, please do not give us a character reference for the leader of Winston First. What you describe as “black and white” I see as “populist cynical”. I can not recall an instance where Winston has done anything out of interest for anyone other than himself, his spectacular ego and self promotion seem to have no bounds.

Rather than eschewing baubles as he promised last election, he shamelessly sort them – exacting a prize from Helen that involved the wining and dining he thrives on, an enormous amount of travel, and
above all doing what he loves the best – big-noting and high-fiving it on the world stage.

The only people I know who vote for him are the extremely elderly and the odd 60 year old who likes a smart aleck. Youth are not among his voters, and never will they be, unless he offers a free return trip to the Thailand beach New Year as an inducement.

In terms of you comments about the baubles of office… when Winston was Deputy PM, Treasurer and Minister of Maori Affairs not once did he take up the perks… (how about that!!) why? simply because he didn’t give a shit about it. So you might ask: why take up the baubles of office now for the first time? and the answer to that is simply – why not?

I know so many youth that support him and the party – so it should only make sense that young people actually have a vehicle (in this case a youth wing) to channel their paritication…

A president of the Aotearoa Tertiary Students Association admitted that NZ First has the best Student Package… so what are we gonna do about it? You can’t rely on the elderly to advocate on behalf of youth… they should be thinking about themselves just as young people look out for their own interests. You must remember… much of Labour’s policies derived from NZ First in the Confidence and Supply Agreement. Check it out.
