Doctors lash Hodgson

Goodness – Pete Hodgson really seems to have riled the doctors’ union. Normally when a Minister retires, they find at least something nice to say. But instead we got:
“His behaviour and inertia in response to advice and alarm from many groups of doctors is mind-boggling,” Dr Brown told the association’s annual meeting in Wellington yesterday.
Health professional-led networks were the best way of improving patient care, yet despite numerous pleas from doctors’ organisations, Mr Hodgson had allowed boards to exclude senior doctors from any initiatives for joint or regional collaboration, he said.
It’s amazing what a difference a Minister can make. Annette King kept the sector groups happy so much better than Hodgson. At least this will make Cunliffe’s job easier – they now have lower expectations.

November 2nd, 2007 at 1:47 pm
The doctors made an important comment that Hodgsen was giving a different answer to Parliament than what they were being told. This merits further investigation. Did he mislead parliament about important issues regarding his portfolio. If so then Hodgsen needs to explain himself before the Privileges Committee.
November 2nd, 2007 at 1:54 pm
The Health system is that confusing and dysfunctional I am thinking about going into the advise industry with a new service called – I can explain it to you – the poor bewildered patient. What a business plan – first thing Monday morning ? Must go whitebait are running . What a mess the country is in .
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:02 pm
One only had to watch his arrogant and patronising manner in dealing with parliamentary questions to see he lacked people skills.
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Look at parliamentary written questions and you’ll see Hodgson’s answer to any health ones was often a fob off. Getting OIA info out of DHBs is getting harder and harder. What are they hiding?
Don’t even get started on triple-dipping Nigel Murray, referred to by the doctors thus: “(as making) misrepresentations, exaggeration, and downright lies during protracted negotiations”
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Good to see you’re backing a union DPF – does this mean other union utterances (such as “The EPMU says National’s call for extensive tax cuts is a hollow call from a party that still has no answer on improving wages and whose real plan is to attack work rights if it ever leads a government. “) should be given the same weight?
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Jesus that’s drawing a long bow, Micky.
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Obviously the members of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists are nasty, overpaid, rich leeches who should be slapped with an 80% tax rate as punishment for speaking out against a Labour minister. Luckily the EFB will prevent them from spending thousands of their own dollars promoting such a scurrilous line during election year.
Seriously though, you’ve got to assume that much of Hodgson’s direction came from Helen/Cabinet, and the docs probably shouldn’t hold their breath for much actual difference with Cunliffe.
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:57 pm
Hello, Mr. Sod.
November 2nd, 2007 at 2:58 pm
Fuck off you insipid moron..
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:06 pm
“Fuck off you insipid moron..”
The multi posting Robinsod that is… find somewhere else to live your pathetic little narcissitic fantasies you tiresome bore… Why Farrar and his fuckwit moderators let you and your shallow propagandising mates post your bigoted crap here in such volume that it destroys any real chance of interesting debate is something I’ll never understand…
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Did you just call the moderators fuckwits?
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:30 pm
It destroys any real chance of interesting debate”
May I remind you that your first Post was
“Fuck off you insipid moron..”
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:32 pm
Bait! You’re back! I was worried you’d shot yourself!
rakaunui(moderation): Robinsod you are worse than unruly, I intend to delete your recent comment.
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm
“Did you just call the moderators fuckwits?”
Why not? Penalising posters for swearing for christ’s sake while these commies post their overwhelming poison here totally unopposed. Carrying out there duties just as the left wants them to, and this is meant to be a right wing blog.
What a joke. The left totally control it, and these so called “moderators” are (in my experience) merely PC flunkies who dance enthusiastically to the tune of the leftists at the same time as those very leftists destroy this site with tumultuous volumes of unreadable commie crap. The commies even gloat over what’s happening here on their own sick and infantile blogs, at the same time as they post the most psychotic attacks on Farrar. What a basket case outfit..
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:41 pm
“May I remind you that your first Post was “Fuck off you insipid moron..””
I don’t need reminding of what I have written halfwit. Why don’t you just take my advice, and spare me the boredom of sifting thru your witless crap in the hope of finding a post worth reading…
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:43 pm
As with any other minster, you can tell them whatever you like, but if the only people they listen to are the already entrenched civil servants, what hope is there. Sometimes I think “Yes, Minister” is a documentary rather than a comedy!
November 2nd, 2007 at 3:44 pm
Yo Rakanui – pleased to meet you. Why was my deleted comment deleted? (I’d've thought the comment to bait was worse) Also – are the moderation points kept up to date ‘cos I don’t want to have to keep tracking back through previous comments to find out where I’m at).
rakaunui(moderation): DPF is keeping the record of demerits. I just make recommendations to him. Mostly I just direct edit. In your case you have been making a whole series of disruptive comments. I haven’t got the time to waste so I just do a bulk delete. Do you want some more ??
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Have I been banned?
rakaunui(moderation): No. Just make your interjections “rare and reasonable”
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:10 pm
“Why does calling you a “fuckwit” not inspire intervention but making a valid comment on the way DPF has posted does?”
In answer to the first part, because its fair comment, and in answer to the second part, because your comments here, along with those of Gnome and Dixon and so many others, are attempts at sabotage. You even boast about it on other blogs. Why don’t you get the fuck off this blog and stick to your own pathetic low traffic weak arsed commie propaganda sites you uninteresting anti free speech dipshit.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:15 pm
Bait – you’ve been reading blogblog? good for you. Now, back on topic I think you’ll find that most of the strain in the health system is due to demographics. Which is to say the boomers entered their fifties this decade (that’s the age their folks often died by the way) and we’re just not prepared for it. I’m not sure we could’ve been ready for the age spike even if the health system (and education system – Dr’s and nurses need training) had not been run down by National. I can imagine it didn’t help though.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:16 pm
C’mon Rakaunui – you’ve got to admit they’re funny.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:17 pm
Redbaiter has a point. While RB’s style is at time rather unhelpful as his invective gets extreme, he doesn’t set out to destroy the blog. There are others whose motivation is obviously to disrupt and make the blog unmanageable so that less people will visit it.
It’s really quite puerile.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:25 pm
maybe….
but I also know of people who no longer visit the site because of some commenters abuse (not because it was aimed at them either, cos it wasn’t)
some posts comment pages (before moderation, anyway) turned into shitfights. there often was nothing relevant to the post.
Maybe fault is on more than one side?
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:26 pm
DPF – I like this place too much to want to destroy it. I was hoping to bring an element of meta-analysis to it. That’s why I like to talk about spin, yours, National’s, Labour’s and other’s. Of course I do this from a left wing perspective – that’s ‘cos I’m left wing! If you want to ban me for being a lefty then fine. Just have the guts to come out and say it rather than going through the charade of trying to explain why Bait is better than Sod – ‘cos bro that’s just embarrassing for all of us.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:35 pm
“While RB’s style is at time rather unhelpful as his invective gets extreme, he doesn’t set out to destroy the blog”
Really DPF – what other purpose could Baiter’s manacle, teeth gnashing rants serve? You know, many posters here have posited that our baiter is a parody right winger, who’s purpose is to destroy the credibility of the right in NZ. This is very interesting as he has apparently announced an intention to serve as right-wing candidate at the 08 election – the plot thickens me thinks …..
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:36 pm
sorry, should have been……
whose purpose
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:41 pm
“While RB’s style is at time rather unhelpful as his invective gets extreme, he doesn’t set out to destroy the blog. ”
Sorry, you have got to be kidding David….
How about – “Why don’t you get the fuck off this blog…”
While this blog is primarily for the expression of DPF’s opinion isn’t another reason for the fostering of debate? How is this not setting out to destroy the spirit of the blog?
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:41 pm
A fairly typical afternoon at Trollasic park.
What a pity.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:42 pm
“manacle, teeth gnashing”
manacle.. !!!
Haw haw.. Thanks for the laff you sad half educated fool. (and you missed it twice) Here’s an article you need to read-
http://www.leightonsmith.co.nz/Default.asp?s=Topics&id=5372
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:42 pm
And it’s “fewer people will visit it”, not “less”.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:43 pm
From stuff yesterday
“We are investing more and getting more,” Dr Cullen said.
“It is also true that current growth in health spending cannot be maintained without cuts in other areas or significant increases in tax rates – neither of which are tenable.”
Since Labour came to power in 1999, the health budget had increased by 99 per cent.
Treasury estimated that the current path of annual increases of 8 per cent would lead to public health expenditure increasing from 6 per cent of GDP to around 33 per cent by 2050.
“This is not sustainable.” Cullen said.
Looks like the dream of a fully funded public health service has been put down. Not by the “nasty” party, but by a third way social democrat.
Another nail in a failed ideology.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:47 pm
“We are investing more and getting more,” Dr Cullen said.
Isn’t that a porky? Wasn’t there a recent treasury report saying outputs had not improved despite the money?
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:48 pm
“How is this not setting out to destroy the spirit of the blog?”
There is a conspiracy on the left to attack the success of Kiwiblog as a venue for the expression of anti-left wing ideas. The massive number of left wingers posting here is an organised event with the same old objective- shutting down views that challenge the totalitarian left.. They do it all over the globe. They’re doing it on Kiwiblog. They’ll do it anywhere they’re able to.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:53 pm
“Thanks for the laff”
Don’t you mean “laugh” baiter? ohh, that;s right, it’s your intention to look stupid – and boy are you a raving success. So keep it up baiter, every time you post here th NZ’s right loses a little more power – masterful, simple masterful
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:54 pm
Bait – That’s just silly. We come here for an argument and a bit of fun. Tinfoil. Hat.
November 2nd, 2007 at 4:55 pm
but the best way to deal with that is don’t feed the troll. It’s like teasing in the playground. The more you react the more they do it. Act like adults and you get an adult conversation.
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:04 pm
I don’t often agree with insider but yeah – if you stop personally attacking the lefties every time they post you’ll get some good debate and KB won’t descend into a bog.
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:12 pm
“Bait – That’s just silly. ”
You and your cronies admit it any number of times on any number of different left wing blogs. As well as that, your numerous personal attacks on David Farrar are a cowardly and vicious attempt to dissuade him from pursuing his blogging activities. Leftism is a totalitarian ideology that will only work if other views are suppressed. You know it and I know it, and you and the rest of the left will never be content until you have total control over the expression of political views in this country. Its an undeniable fact. If you can’t have that, you’ll never achieve your political objectives, and your sick political system won’t prevail the way you want it to. Socialism makes the Third Reich look like play school.
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:13 pm
<p>David – I’m not trying to destroy your blog, I’m breaking up your narrative. </p>
<p>I don’t come here to troll, the vast vast bulk of my posts are devloped arguments usually citing authoritative sources. Look back at joke I made of your wage figures a few weeks ago.</p>
<p>Now, maybe you think anyone with an opposing view ought to be silenced, maybe that’s Mr Farrar’s new defination of trolling but I hope not because it would be a cowardly one.</p>
<p>All Redbaiter does is tell people to fuckoff.</p>
<p>Rakaunui – just out of interst… if I called you a fuckwit, how would that go down? would I be treated differently from Redbaiter?</p>
<p>rakaunui(moderation): You would be treated according to my estimation of what you were trying to achieve. I could always be wrong but I will act in the best interest (as I see it) of the visitors to Kiwiblog.
As for name calling, well I know my own weaknesses and strengths and can cope with it.
In the background is always the wish to let commentors, both left and right have a say.
I answer to DPF for what I do here.</p>
[DPF: Sam - you shouldn't assume I was referring to you with my comment. With rare exceptions you make good posts on the issues. I welcome that. I view contributions from yourself as very very different to Robinson]
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:16 pm
“There is a conspiracy on the left to attack the success of Kiwiblog”
yes – excellent baiter. I think I can see your angle with this one. Your trying to give the impression that the right is populated by highly paranoid wing-nuts. Genius, pure genius. Keep up the good work baiter!
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Bait – we “boast about it on other blogs” can you cite me an example of me doing this?
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:40 pm
“Bait – we “boast about it on other blogs”
We don’t have to though remember sod – we all sit around in CTU headquarters – dressed in black and green visors, while smoking cigars and high-fiving each other every time we score a hit against KB. Which reminds me, can you handle that personal grievance at Curia? I think I might stay on KB duty tonight.
November 2nd, 2007 at 5:44 pm
Actually, I thought RedBaiter’s “fuckwit moderators” was referring to the people who moderate the fuckwits. I was surprised to hear him say that wasn’t what he meant.
I do think that a number of the lefty folk load pretty much the same comments onto every thread, which adds nothing to the debate unless someone has the time and inclination to debate the same points over and over again. They also have a tendency to post links to detailed studies that don’t actually support their points, and to make claims that basically boil down to “Labour good, National bad.” Sure, it is their opinion, but it is pretty much a waste of everybody else’s time.
And Sam, you didn’t make a joke of DPF’s wage figures, my recollection was that you raised points that were a matter of opinion, declared DPFs numbers to be an error, and then claimed success.
November 2nd, 2007 at 6:02 pm
“Bait – we “boast about it on other blogs” can you cite me an example of me doing this?”
WTF????
What the hell is “Kiwiblogblog” if not an example that sticks out like dogs balls? Almost every word written there is a smug self congratulatory attack on Kiwiblog or David Farrar, wherein the whole bunch of you yellow backed communist hyenas follow on with gratuitous back slapping and self praise that is nauseating to any civilized person, not so much for its obvious sycophancy but also for its blatant falsity.
Above you state that you “love this place too much to want to destroy it”. I recall reading a remark from you to the effect that Kiwiblog only ever made you angry. Which of these two statements is the lie??
November 2nd, 2007 at 6:09 pm
FFS this is a thread about haughty Hodgson being flipped a goodbye birdie by doctors, not a whinge thread about excessive moderation and mindless point scoring…..so boring!
The comment threads on this blog were way better without moderation and only one left wing puppet……..Sonic – who else!?
November 2nd, 2007 at 6:10 pm
“and then claimed success.”
They’re always making such claims. Almost every debate, they claim to have ‘won’ it. Shows how infantile they really are, in believing they can simultaneously be the debater and the judge. That they do this so often and so compulsively is one of the most standout pointers to their mental inferiority. Psychotics.
November 2nd, 2007 at 7:05 pm
“Act like adults and you get an adult conversation.”
there’s some one on this blog who desperately needs to learn this golden rule. If only I could remember his name. Something like
D4…. wish I could remember. His personality is so miniscule and forgettable,, but he keeps squeaking like an irritating lil mouse.
November 2nd, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Attention like minded persons.
Please attempt to keep this debate on topic. What we have here is a well illustrated example of a Health Minister who has had no confidence from the salaried medical specialists. The people at the coal face were not being listened to by the minister, who it would seem had chosen to not only surround himself with ‘crats and policy analysts, but also to actively exclude those staff with the best experience of what the health system needs.
Can anyone find out how many times the PM was asked if she had confidence in the minister of health? It would appear that to a number of doctors his behaviour was considered cretinous.
To not include medical professionals in regional initiatives is one thing. To actively exclude them from these issues speaks of either arrogance, or ignorance.
November 2nd, 2007 at 8:18 pm
It is difficult to remain on topic as there is nothing to discuss. Everyone with half a brain new that Pete Hodgson was useless and, although the doctors may have liked her, Annette King was no better. Just look at the results; untold money thrown at health for no change in outcomes!
November 2nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm
hinamanu , you seem irritated at other peoples posts ,always remember you probably piss other people of, to ,So relax its the weekend , and if you dispise the usless leftest tossiors like i do , you will feel better l
November 2nd, 2007 at 9:18 pm
“D4…. wish I could remember. His personality is so miniscule and forgettable,, but he keeps squeaking like an irritating lil mouse”
I cant believe you hinamanu , a real nasty back stabber . I am no mouse. I am a rat but that is better than a gormless jellyfish like you . Your sting is rather weak and ineffective you weirdo creep !!
November 2nd, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Robinsod likes his peace and quiet over at that place that lowers the standard of lowering the standard.
He’s incapable of reasoned debate. Labour is Good and National is Bad. He makes Jordan look balanced. Go nuts on his favourite echo chamber next time he’s pissing you off. I’m about to now.
November 3rd, 2007 at 7:40 am
NURSES LASH BENSON-POPE.
sorry.
November 3rd, 2007 at 9:26 am
Annoying the trolls are out from under the bridge cos it appears the Dr’s have made some reasonable points.
I was told yesterday that we have 13,000 beds in our hospitals and 13,000 administrators in the health system. Whilst I acknowledge these numbers may not be exact to the last [getting in before the trolls hijack], even if they are close we are in the sh@t!
A quote comes to mind, I believe attributed to Jack Welch (GE) “If you bow down to head office, you point your buttocks at the customers.”
November 3rd, 2007 at 11:05 am
About the only thing that shines for this minister is his fucking head.
November 3rd, 2007 at 11:24 am
He’s incapable of reasoned debate.
This from a person who says Labour is Good and National is Bad.
on every post he makes
November 3rd, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Burt – I’ve tried reasoned debate with you over at the standard and all you did was willfully misrepresent my arguments and continually restate your position . That was troll-like behaviour and I finally got sick of it. You have not place in the debate because you refuse to debate. For example:
http://www.thestandard.org.nz/?p=467#comment-1004
