NZ First Tauranga says Kill the Bill
December 13th, 2007 at 10:54 am by David FarrarThe Herald reports that the Tauranga electorate of NZ First passed a resolution calling on its MPs not to vote for the Electoral Finance Bill.
Party activist and executive member Ralph Maxwell said the executive comprised about 18 people. There was one abstention and one vote against the resolution. He said the bill was not supported within the party and that the caucus was supporting it because it would help their own survival.
Mr Maxwell may be wrong on one aspect. The caucus support for the Electoral Finance Bill may in fact harm their chances of surviving the next election.

The caucus may support it because it will help their survival within the party, but I agree that doing so will hurt their re-election chances as things now stand. NZ First, if I understand things correctly, is still to decide who will be their candidates next year- and their organisation gives a lot of weight to the Minister without Baubles.
Vote:Upsetting him will reduce the chances of being re-selected.

And three of their guiding principles:
Honest Government
An independent anti-corruption commission will be established to enable New Zealanders to have confidence that their institutions are working properly.
Electoral Reform
Electoral reform will be determined by the electors. The Government’s duty will be to ensure the fair representation of all views and the holding of appropriate referenda.
Towards a Better Democracy
Vote:All policies not contained in the party manifesto, where no national emergency clearly exists, will first be referred to the electorate for a mandate.

Never mind, I’m sure its only a matter of time before Winston reveals a ravening horde of dog-eating gooks, rag-head overstayers who want to buy the airports, and guerrillas in the (Urerwera) mist to drive those Winston First drones back into a state of brain death.

NZ Fist is aperfect example of what can happen when too much power is placed into the hands of one individual.
They should ditch Winey take their chances with the electorate and start to rebuild the Party according to its alleged principles.

I can see Winston having a ‘Stalinist’ purge in the party where he will denounce NZF members for daring to think for themselves.

A significant Budget injection into Winston’s Golden Oldies Card will take care of “business”.
Vote:Labour needs Winston as much as he needs them.

He stopped visiting Tauranga 3 years ago, and from what I understand, they haven’t missed him!

Peters has this view that somehow Bob Clarkson who was a well known businessman in Tauranga got an unfair advantage over him (of all people) because he was able to put a few hoardings on some buildings Clarkson owned. This is to be set against Peters who is well known by everyone in Tauranga and much else. Nevertheless Peters thinks his loss was due to that. So he goes along with this Bill to try and cure this great injustice he suffered. And he thinks Tauranga really does love him it was just unfair of Clarkson to win. Peters is a self deluded fool who has been in politics for far too long. I look forward to him and his party being rejected at the next election.

Winston must be getting old – his timing is out a bit: yesterday’s donation to Starship should have been today to smoke screen this for better value.

Some of the few good things to come out of the EFB bill… No more NZ First, no more United Future. Throw in a complete loss of the moral high ground (for say, two-three terms?) for labour and the Greens.
Vote:More power national, ACT.

Amazing! It is rare for a party membership to do this. Though what is even more telling is that Winston has refused to listen to them.
Since when has the Parliamentary wing of the party overwritten the executive/membership? It could only happen in Winston First.

Great find Lee C!!
As my old mate the 12th Man would say (with apologies to Billy Birmingham for the name change) in his “best Bill Lawry”…..
“Gottim yes – stick that up your arse Winston Peters!”

Interesting Lee, I wonder if they’ll ask him to reconcile this with his position on the EFB on the News tonight?
Vote:Or perhaps he’ll go AWOL for a while.

Wel guys, it’s been like that at least since last September when I first took a peek. Right under the noses of the ‘investigative journalists’ of New Zealand.
Imagine, all this time, Winston has been outrightly betraying his own Party Principles.
Why am I not suprized?
I wonder if these were the same principles they had on their manifesto pre-election?
Gravy-sucking pigs.

A vote for Winston is a vote for Labour.
How obviously true that is when Winston doesn’t even listen to his own electoral committee and takes a position in complete disagreement with the parties principles and masthead ideals.
Just as well that he does’t listen to them because he might make it back into Parliament if he did listen to them.
Vote:Its high time the show pony was put out to pasture anyway give him a High Commission posting and tell him to pack he’s bags and try the UN they just adore lap dogs and poodles!

Without wishing to blow my own trumpet or anything… I’ve mentioned on several EFB threads that NZF’s Fundamental Principles specifically preclude support for the Bill.
Lee C has highlighted it again.
The MSM is known to blog surf and even if they haven’t seen those specific comments, how hard is it to surf a party’s website?!
Yet, to the best of my knowledge, not one single journalist has waved those “Principles” under Winston’s nose with a camera or tape recorder running.
Now I know where Helen got the baubles she gave Winnie. They’re the ones she made the Gallery hand to her back in ’99.
