Interesting to see how the monarchy moves with the times. The ‘Monarchy’ as we see it was largely invented by Victoria and Albert, and met the needs of an industrialised nation which appeared to need such a figurehead. Now in the 21st, it goes global, on its own initiative, rather than as a result of the press forcing it to… interesting.
Ps I am not a monarchist per se, but both hate and enjoy their presence. Ultimately they are more entertaining than politicians.
I am most certainly a monarchist, and I am pissed off about the banner on their channel. Her Majesty is the Queen of 16 equal, and separate nations. In New Zealand, she is The Queen of New Zealand and belongs to the New Zealand Monarchy. In Australia she is The Queen of Australia and belongs to the Australian Monarchy, the same in Canada, and Jamaica and so on and so forth.
So why then does the banner of their channel read, ‘British Monarchy’? For her entire reign she has belonged to more than one monarchy. In every one of those years there has been two consistent things, one, The Queen herself, and two, the House of Windsor. Now I can understand that they can’t call it ‘The channel for The Queen’ because they have clips about Charles etc., but they could call it ‘The channel for the House of Windsor’, without offending any of the nations who call Her Majesty their Queen.
